A Month Without a Citizen
We stop the business of business across the country: No schools, no retail, no roads, no railroads, no restaurants, no airports, no seaports, NOTHING...
...unless and UNTIL an amendment is ratified granting citizens the power of VETO over any item of ANY bill leaving Capitol Hill and before going to the White House.
Who's in and which month is better: January or February?
Thoughts?

We all have to work. But for what? What's the total % we pay in taxes, including property taxes, income taxes, etc? Where I'm from, more than half is likely going to upgrade infrastructure for persons here illegally who should be building their own countries.
Our generation could never sacrifice as much for our children and their liberties and future as the World War II generation. Compared to them (and even more blindingly, compared to the losses amassed in the Civil War), we would be giving up nothing and gaining powers they never dreamed of.
I think they'd be proud. Think about it.

I could do it for possibly two days, but that would be the max.
Just like in Hollywood, they know not to release a movie too soon or too late. It's all in the timing. If you do this too early, the candidates and the Country will forget about it by November. Too late and everybody has pretty much made up their mind who they will vote for.
What about one in the end of June or sometime in July 2008? Most people's kids would be out of school and it still wouldn't be too late.
PS (No schools would hurt the kids graduating. Also, you could use this to your advantage. No kids at tourist attractions etc.)

even one week would foul things up. i don't know if a day would do it. a day sure would let them know how many of us are on this side of the issue. i wonder what it would look like if we all just put our names on something. i think they are getting the idea as durbin's office got 100,000 faxes and calls about the dream act and it got 7 senators to drop it like a hot rock. that doesn't count all the calls to the other senators. i think it would be a surprise to everyone because as much as they would like to make this a race issue it is more down the legal/illegal line meaning you would see all colors people instead of just all whites as they would have everyone believe. even a weekend day to show the color diversity and number would be powerful. the demonstration held by the illegal mexicans looked to me to be nothing but illegal and legal mexicans if there was anyone else there was too few to notice. need an agency to sponsor us

Given some thought, your question holds a lot of truth in it. A united people can be a very powerful force. It is as an individual when it has no power. The only time when people are willing to unite is when something they value most is in danger. Sad but that's the truth.

I would love too! But I think we need to start locally by educating people. Republicans have put up this smoking mirror we need to brake it down. The way to do that is to show american people that mexicans are not villains. I am an american who believes in human rights and I research immigration issues often

I will do it but it cannot be for a month....bills, kids, food. I will consider 2-3 days during the week and possibly a full week but that is even stretching it. Very good idea.

If it was for the War,but for immigration. I would like to see something done about immigration and not just the one crossing the border.

I am with you, but, I can't do a month. My children need schooling, and, we need food for them. (milk, eggs- they are young- I could put teens on ramen noodles and soda for a month and they would like it, my babies won't. LOL).
If you come up with a day, or a few days, I am with you.
