The Arc was a conductor of electricity and when King David was bringing it to Jerusalem a well meaning man tried to catch it as he feared it might fall. Unfortuneatly he died The high priests hid it.

1) The Ark in and of itself had no 'killing abilities", we are told in Numbers 4:4-20 that God gave VERY specific instruction as to how the Ark was to be moved and who was to move it. The man who reached out to steady the Ark was in disobedience to God by touching the Ark and the consequence of that disobedience was death. 1 Chronicles 13:10 tells us that the Lord's anger was aroused against Uzzah and He struck him dead because he had laid his hand on the Ark. The Ark didn't kill Uzzah, God did for his disobedience.

2) In Revelation 11:19 we are told by John when he was in heaven (having his vision of Heaven) that the temple of God was opened in Heaven, and the Ark of His Covenant was seen in His Temple. (Just my personal opinion, but I do believe that the Ark of the Covenant is in Heaven today.)

I had heard the electrical thing too.
The Ark was believed to have been lost, hidden or destroyed during the Babylonian Captivity, I guess around 580 B.C.?

The ark was a "lightning box". The Eygptians used to build these boxes that could build up enormous static charges. They worked on the same priniple as leyden jars.

I don't think we should interpret the passage literally.
