Can anyone give me an example situation which shows a need to protect rights in criminal law?What type of situation might show a need to protect rights in criminal law?

During the interrogation of a suspect in the police station, he must be assisted by a lawyer to protect his right against self-incrimination and to be advised of the crime for which he was being investigated.

How about the police not coming a kicking down your door and dragging you out into the street and searching your house. Or the same situation in your car driving down the street. Or in jails, gaurds can not beat prisoners just because they are in jail.
