I have been in a seminary class for a fair amount of time and have had yet another prevelant question. Keep in mind this is a LDS Seminary.

The purpose for life is in agency and the choice to be good or bad, and to learn from those choices. Yet, God sent a great flood to rid the world of all the sin it had fallen into. Doesn't that defeat the point of agency and suggest God saying "You can do whatever, but if ya choose wrong, your dead". I know its not that simple, but take the essence and respond.

For those who didnt read that all- Didnt the Great Flood contradict our so-called freewill?

Marooned- Lucfier/Satan has created agency. I addressed this in an earlier question of mine. Destroying Satan would destory agency

Also- I am not saying they did no wrong. But God is not our judge, not in this life. Punishment for sinners is meant to come in the after-life, enternal damnation and the likes. This is not meant to be God's playground where he can kil those who transgress his rules. Its moot to argue that they were given warning, the point is ot if god warned the people, it is in what he did.

NOTE: I am athiest, but arguing with LDS teachings. BTW- LDS: Latter-Day Saints

The answer to your question is no.

God destroyed men from off the face of the earth because they had become completely corrupted and only thought things that are evil. There was no good in them.

These men choose sin over God. God knows the hearts of men and there was not hope for them.

There are many reasons why this is a ridiculous theory. 1--The flood was local (to Iraq) and never affected Egypt. 2--If the flood was NOT local and truly covered all the mountains, the pyramids would have been at least 2 miles under water. 3--The flood occurred at least 500 years before the pyramids were built. 4--You should never assume that people travelled if the only mode of travel was your feet or your donkey. (By the way, I'm a creationist.)

If you follow the story of the great flood as it is put forth by the bible. You understand why it happens. God through out the bible is a punisher. There are large consequences for wrong doing. There are not very many sections of the bible where man has done wrong and God has said....ok I'll let you slide this time. God is written as always sending the message of power and authority. The Alpha and the Omega for a reason.

LDS? what does this stand for? Free will to follow the laws set down at that time as now and the threat of punishment, You have the choice/right to live free but if you start breaking laws IE. killing or robbing you will be punished - Sorry!, they were given these rights/privileges but decided to live life their way and hoped that the "Punishment" part would be overlooked - IT WASN'T! Sorry again.

The point is there is free will, but there are consequences to the choices we make. Many choose "the pleasure of sin for a season", not thinking of the long-term consequences, but that does not mean those consequences do not exist, or that the choices are not freely made.

No contradiction there.

God already gave fair amount of opportunity to repent. He let Noah build the arc in the hill far away from the ocean.

This is a testimony and a warning by itself.

Ask yourself why he decided to drown all those people, but he allows Satan to continue existing.
