Water pills can be harmful if you take too many because water pills are primarily used to lower blood pressure, therefore if you normally have low blood pressure to start with, you could find yourself in a serious situation.
I would only take them if it were right before your period, to alleviate some of the water retension.

They reduce bloating and water weight. They aren't harmful, but not to be used for long periods of time, or if you have bladder or kidney problems. They can also cause dehydration if used excessively, they might also turn your pee whatever color the pill is. They do work, especially around the time of your period!
