My brother and I had a heated discussion about family members. He believes that hir family, his wife and son and himself should be his only concern. I feel family is your born into family and your married into family. What is the correct posision I should have? Thank-you.

That's a selfish republican point of view. It's a very sad world where people only care about their immediate family. Maybe that would be a good idea if they were the only family on the planet, but that is not true.

They are proving that republican brains are simply stubborn and dense anyhow. And they tend to stick to flawed ideas no matter what the consequences. In order to survive, people need to think about more than their nuclear family. We are stronger as a united democracy.

It's fine if you love your family, there is power in that. But it is not the ultimate power by itself...Love coimes from loving all things, being tolerant, and having acceptance. So, sticking with your family alone is not likely to have a loving effect over time. It would most likely bring resentment and bitterness about the outside world into the household.

You can't force someone to think like you. If that's the way he feels he has that right. No I don't agree with it. As a matter of fact my husband and I have this issue. But fact is, you can't MAKE someone want to do anything.
My immediate family does come FIRST. They are my home and hearth. But the rest of my family is just as important.

Well, I think there should be a balance..There's enough love to go around. :) Also, how will your brother feel if his children grow up, move out, and they get married, have children, and then say "Sorry, my wife and my kids are my only concern now"? I think he needs to think about that.

I think you should strive to find balance between the two. Naturally, he has more responsibilites toward his wife and child, but he should not neglect his "born into" family. On the other hand, you must realize he has new responsibilities and should not be forced to choose between you and his wife & child.

The Bible requires was to love everyone. And to care for others, to even help ones even in jail. NOT to be selfish and care about only one self or family.

that depends.

i place more value on friends.

to me blood family is just some people that you got stuck with as a consequence of your birth.

you choose your friends so to me they matter more.

same would go for your married family and your children. you chose that.

my sister and I also argue on this

she asked me if my mother was in hospital and my husband was in hospital ...
who's bedside I would be sitting at
I replied my husbands
she didn't like my answer
but my husband and children are now my immediate family
and as much as I love my mother ...
my priorities lie in my home now

of course I hope it never comes to that
this is a very difficult position

Unless your family lives on a Island, you can't take the position that your family is your only concern.
