Doesn't sound like fun to me. I have felt this way, and to break the ice I invited them out to lunch or dinner.. Get together after work. Or bring in goodies. That always helps.

First of all, you are an outsider and that's okay because not only have the all been together for a long time they are a family. It will take time to feel comfortable in a new setting. Stop putting yourself on edge and worrying about what you THINK people are thinking and doing. What you need to do is what you were hired to do. Be courteous, pleasant and answer the phone promptly and read back names and numbers when you take a call. Deliver the messages promptly and keep a smile on your face. Don't give out info about what your employers are doing when someone calls for them. Just say, "No Miss Boss is unavailable right now, can I take a message or can someone else help you." Don't say that people are at lunch, or on vacation (you can say they'll be out of the office until a particular date) or went here, there and everywhere. You don't know what is really on their minds. Just be pleasant, businesslike, be helpful but not pushy, don't be late, don't leave early, don't extend your lunch break, dress neatly, let someone know where you are at all times if you have to leave your desk. Do the best work you can and make the best of it, go home and enjoy yourself and come back to work as if it's a new day. Good luck.

I have figured out that it takes me about a month to finally have everything down and feel comfortable on a new job. Hang in there, and try to be as friendly and at ease as you can. If you are nervous or unhappy, it might come across as stuck up, or people might think you dont like them, or dont like working there. Then they will start to talk, and it is hard to turn all that around for a new person. Act like you really want to be there friend, and are having a great time, and keep doing your job as best as you can. Good luck!

Everyone probably feels like that at least a little bit when they get a new job. It sound like you have a bad case of it at this job, though. Do you best...try to fit in when possible. Be friendly to everyone, try to start conversations, if u have questions about your job, ask them. If this keeps persisting, however, get a new job.
Hope this helps

they DO think you are incompetent and weird. This is because you are incompetent and weird AT THE MOMENT. But it will wear off as you get to know your way around and learn this company's business methods. Give it a few months and you will be fine. Dont give up now. You wont be the new bod forever.

First of all who cares if they are talking about you! You can't make everyone like you all of the time, so why stress yourself out over it. You don't even know for sure if they are talking about you so stop being paranoid! Believe in yourself, just do your job and be proffessional! If you believe in God then pray fo them otherwise just don't sweat it! It's not worth it! Encourage yourself be confident in your abilities to do the job, love yourself. If they don't compliment you then you compliment yourself for a job well done pat yourself on the back, don't depend on anyone else to do it! Keep your head up!

If it is a small office, try surprising them on a Monday morning, by baking and bringing in a cake.

You're paranoid. See a shrink before it's too late.
