Can you tell me why the earliest copies of the Qur'an were burnt by Muslims? Were they hiding something?

It would be one thing if the Muslims were burning the Pagan writings of their area - but they were burning copies of their own Qur'an!

Yogini I am talking about a systematic campaign to destroy all copies of the Qur'an but the one they had decided on and written. There is nothing comprible in Christian history.

I am not a muslim but why were the earliest celtic books and writings burnt by the Christians? Were they trying to hide something?

Oh you wanted a specific example because you can't see the similiarities, ok then. Why did the Christians fine the printers of the bible in 1631 and then burn all the copies?

I've answered your question, and here it is again....

The answer is in your question itself.

In that time, with Islam spreading across many different nations, the Arabic tongue was mixed with many different accents.

There are 7 different "Qira'at" and that means "reading".

Muslims were afraid that every different group would take a different interpretation of the Qur'an according to the "reading" that they possess. For that reason, and for that reason ONLY, the other versions of the Qur'an were burnt, and only the original one was kept and re-written.

So I guess that clearly tells you that it has nothing to do with hiding something or anything in that like.

Hope that answers your question.

Peace.

Since Muhammed was neither able to read or write the Koran was not written down for years. Supposedly he recited it to his followeres who then in turn passed it on in oral tradition and eventually wrote it down. They probably burnt copies that didnt agree with their doctrine. Full blind rage seems to be one Muslim attribute that we have unfortunately not seen the last of. Incidently Al Queda has claimed responsibility for the slaughter of over 500 Zorastrians ( Yezdis) in Iraq last month. These are a very peaceable people who live amopung the Kurds and described as like "Quakers" by the Iraqi President. These people are so nice not even Saddam murdered them. Al Queda is the absolute definition of "full blind rage"

Probably because your story implies that the early Muslims had something to hide and that the surviving version of the Quran is not authentic.

And there are many incidents in Christian history of destruction of both Christian, Jewish, and other religious texts.

I don't know why Muslims are angry.

The Bukhari hadith are the MOST authoritative writings concerning Muhammed and early Islam.

Thank you for pointing out an important FACT about the reliability of the Qur'an.

Having been raised Catholic, I would say the Church has destroyed so many documents it's ludicrous. I wouldn't just think it's Muslims.

Standardization. And you are mistaken, as many "apocrypha" were destroyed by Christians.
