You know ...

I realize you're trying to give a bit of perspective in this. You, and other posters, are correct as far as it goes; molestation occurs everywhere there is an adult authority figure in contact with young children. It's not just the Church, and it's not just churches.

But I'll tell you what: Every time some lame-brain posts a cheap-shot comment about Catholic priests here, it makes me wince; not for the Church or for that matter we Catholics, but for those who have been victims. I just pray that no victims of this kind of abuse, at anyone's hands, see these comments. It's grossly unfair to them, to use their very personal pain for kicks on an internet message board.

I know that's the kind of thing you're trying to counter. But the ones who really need to get it through their heads aren't going to see this; they're too busy getting mileage out of their oh-so-clever comments. Shame on them, yes. But trying to deflect some of the arrows to another target doesn't help the victims, either.

all creeds and colors of people have child molesters not just catholic priests. Any time childern are allowed to be unsupervised alone with adults this can happen. It is best to make sure the alone times dont happen to protect your kids and it happens when two people even adults spend to much time together like the preacher and the church secretary. two people alone together will usally have sexual contact of some sort. Trouble is 90% or more will never be told.

Yes, but it is wrong to use the bad behavior of other Christians to justify the bad behavior of Catholic Christians. There shouldn't be molestation of children in ANY religion.

And did you know more public school teachers are guilty of molesting children than the two put together?

And does the Protestant Church also know this then move the priests out of the parish so they can molest over and over?

is someone feeling a little guilty about their catholic faith? You keep posting these questions....what your saying is catholic priests aren't "that bad" because their are more protestant ministers molesting children than catholic priests! they are both sinning and should be ashamed of themselves, because they are hurting innocent children! You should be outraged it's happening at all!

Yes and public school teachers in the US many times more than both.
In almost every profession there are many more accusations than convictions and the great amounts of money dished out can encourage the "awakening" of "supressed memories" like nothing else.

No, I wasn't keeping count of who molests who in the church. It's a gross obsession, and frankly, I wish people would stop talking about it. Where do your statistics come from?

we all need to help the victims of the sinners and also, yes, the sinners instead of pointing fingers. every denomination is guilty, ever person has guilt - the ones who turned a blind eye, the ones who harmed the children and yes (while unfounded guilt) the children who were harmed & said nothing and those who wrongly accused....
finger pointing won't help.
