Some people should not be allowed to answer questions if they don't know what they are talking about. Patrick and GMH are incorrect.
You need a good GPA, over 3.5 would do. You also want to have some extracurricular activities on your record, especially those showing leadership (like class president, president of the history club, etc.). And other activities like choir or drama or Key Club. Look into People to People, a great program for leadership and working with people.
Each mid-shipman must participate in a sport at the academy. So decide on Basketball, softball, volleyball or other sport.
Finally you need a letter of recommendation from a member of congress. This is only a letter of recommendation, the academy offers you an appointment.
Go see your counselor, she/he can help you get started. And get started now. Write one of your congresspeople (Representative is usually best) and ask what you could do to earn his/her recommendation.
Good Luck.

First, as others have stated, you need the grades. There is no grade point requirement but you should be in the top of your class. You will probably want to take as much of the science and math as you can. You do not need to be an athlete as a previous poster has suggested. You should be involved in extracurricular activities; clubs, volunteer work, etc. You will need a recommendation from one of your representatives.

The second link is directed towards home schooled applicants but it should give you a basic idea of what they require.

Yes, play sports now. They demonstrate teamwork and physical conditioning. Do whatever activities you like, just try to get a leadership role in one of them. Don't overlook community volunteering, there's more to a well-rounded person than school activities. You also need a challenging curriculum, particularly in math and science, and you need a very very good GPA. Start taking ACT or SAT prep courses as well.

The appointment is not really a scholarship. It is an invitation to attend. You not only need very high grades but you need to show civic involvement and other attributes proving you are worthy of such an appointment. ....ADDED INFORMATION A note to alaskamusher....what makes you think you have the right to slam others who reply here? Simply state your opinion and leave. Personal attacks have no place here.

4.0 GPA in College Prep courses. the more AP classes the better. you also need to have at least one sport and other outside activities such as student council and volunteering.
You also need to start the process NOW. if you wait until next year you will be too late.

If its anything like it used to be, you would need to have a 4.0 grade point average...you would need an "appointment" to get into Annapolis. (a scholarship). Good luck in your career, it IS a great goal!

You need grades, extracurriculars, letters of recommendation...It is very hard to get in and very competitive. Get to the counselor's office ASAP to get the specifics, because you need to start preparing now.

Don't even consider applying if you don't have a 3.5 GPA. That, however, is the easy part. You need letters of recommendation, volunteer work, after school activities. Good luck with it.
