It's hanging down a little too far and my dentist won't see me for another week. I just want to reduce it by a tiny bit so it feels like it used to. Will this cause it to fall out? It seems like all the dentist will do is grind it down with sandpaper anyway. Thanks.

ANOTHER WEEK?

All it will take is a few seconds once you're in the chair... call the office back and try to get a sooner appointment. Tell them your occlusion is off and you're having a hard time with it and are afraid of biting on something that may cause it to fracture since it's too high...... they should get you in sooner..

But to answer your question, you could try doing it yourself, but you could make it worse than it is without meaning to..

;)

You can use that or a fingernail filer but it is going to feel very rough. I have had alot of patients do this if they have broken a tooth so it would not be as sharp to there tongue. Be very careful if you do. I can't believe that your dentist will not see you for another week. This is a very simple thing to do and you would not even be in the chair for 5 minutes. You should think about seeing another dentist.

Dont do it yourself, you might leave little crack or grooves that can easily stain or hold decay... wait for your dentist or go to someone else.

The dentist uses little sanding discs or finshing burs to reduce the size of composite fillings, but they have different grades so that they can polish the teeth and not leave room for stains and decay. Regular sand paper doesnt have the same grade.

I wouldn't recc it. Sanding it down may cause it to become rough. Dentist have special grid stones to smooth the filling.

You might accidentally sand a tooth. The dentist has the proper training to do it on someone else. You do not have the proper training to do it on yourself.

ALEX,
YOU MIGHT TRY THIS AND END DAMAGING YOUR FILLING AND/OR TOOTH.
LET THE PROFESSIONALS DO IT.
