I went through this with my grandmother 3 years ago. I know it is difficult, but she wasnt aware of anything anymore. She did not eat for the last month she was alive. In the end, we were just thankful that her suffering had come to an end. My heart goes out to you.

Go with your beliefs & continue to give your mom the TPN IV. Is it time to get another doctor's opinion? Can you discuss your mom's situation with a home healthcare person? Your mom needs nutrients & she needs them continuously, so she can get strong enough for the chemo. She has to have nutrients as you well know.

sadly, she will die from a combination of the illness and no nutrients. my sis opted for tpn so she could make it through christmas a couple years ago. when the holidays were over, she had it dc'd and died 14 days later. we/she already knew this would happen as she was in the last stage of her cancer but it was still a tough thing to do. all my best to you and your mom.

In my opinion, and it is just that, I don't know any of the details of the situation. I think it is the right thing to do. Let her die with dignity. I sounds like she has no real quality of life anymore. Has she come to accept that she will most likely die? Have you? I am so sorry to hear your mother is sick. I pray God will give you, your family, and of course your mother peace during this horrible time. God bless.

it sounds like TPN is the only way your mom is getting any nutrition, so yes if you dc'd it she would eventually starve to death.

Please seek a second opinion from another doctor or call : The Cancer Treatment Centers Of America. It sounds to me that this is what is keeping her alive at the moment. I am very sorry your going through this. My thoughts are with you.

Tell her doctor your concerns about her not eating, then let them make the decision whether to take her off the IV.
