Does anyone know how this works? Is there any things that I really need to know before I go do this online? I really want to know a reputable site to use if anyone knows of any.

I would personally not be ordained by ULC Seminary, ULC Monastery, etc. If you want to be ordained, go to ulc.net or ulchq.com. Those are the official websites of the Universal Life Church.

One reason that is important is because the ULC in Modesto,Ca is an actual church with an actual building and weekly services. In some states, that helps out a lot.

As far as those that would say you're not "really ordained" if you're ordained through the internet, I would say those people are ignorant. I personally studied for ordination with the denomination I grew up in and backed out a month before my ordination date because I had decided their dogma did not fit with my personal values and views to the extent that I could not faithfully call myself one of their ministers while remaining true to myself. Many other ministers in the ULC have just as much or more formal training than myself.

But, you also have to ask yourself: Was Jesus ordained? Was Paul ordained? Many of the movers and shakers in religion were not ordained by anyone but God. Who then are we to say that a person is not ordained because they have not fulfilled a formal religious education? In addition, even though the contact requesting the ordination is done online, the actual ordination is done in Modesto, CA.

Our friend is getting ordained by the Progressive Universal Life Church (www.pulc.com). Do check to be sure that an on-line ordination is legal where you live (PULC says that as far as they know, they're legal everywhere in the US except NYC--I checked where we live--Chicago--and they're recognized here). There are other on-line churches that will ordain you, too. PULC asks for a small donation (about 20 bucks) and then they'll send you the ordination papers in the mail. You can also buy marriage certificate forms and other such things from them, if you want.

I did it in Universal life Church (www.ulc.net). It was free. I checked and it is a legal ordinization in CA and in many other states. But in order to really perform ceremony's your legality varies in different states. Look on the site to find the links to the state you are looking about.

Good luck!

*sorry, but I just did it to see if it works, and it did - so if anyone is pissed - oh well, its not like I'm out there trying to preach/force my beliefs on others (like many "real" reverends)

Universal Life Church www.ulcseminary.org you can apply on line for ordination through their church.

Check out sites (search for on-line ordination or on line ordination applications) and see which type of church will best fit your beliefs and if it is something which you'll be willing to commit to; it's real not a joke so please don't take it lightly.
