Should I tell him the truth at the end of the letter, or send the truth out the next day.
I was think I'd send a box of sand too, but not too much. I might have it colored.

Here's a little shock. The John letter is f'd up first of all. Secondly, your right, he won't find another girl to hit up....right away... There are ladies in the service, though there aren't as many as the men, we are still out here. They also may not be as pretty but for guys who are going to be there for a while...the ladies look good to them. Also. Letters are not garanteed to get there in order. or at the same time as you'd like. the letter that you would send the day after the john leter may not even get there until two weeks after he received the first. -- Just something to think about.

Listen you didn't say weather he was in Basic, Iraq or Afghanistan. No matter where he is right now he is probably under a lot of stress. He may have a wicked sense of humor when he is at home but that would be cruel and not funny. Any outside stress like that could send him over the edge. You are obviously a girlfriend and not a wife so you have not had to sit through any deployment briefings. Please don't do this to the guy if you really care about him. Save something like that when he gets back and can appreciate the joke.

The box of sand won't even get delivered as all mail is opened and screened which is sent to the troops. My husband serves in the military and never ever would I think of sending such a hurtful joke in the mail. The military currently has a 70% divorce rate and it's no laughing matter. These guys are in hell over there and sometimes the only thing that gets them through is knowing that they have loved ones at home waiting for them. I can't believe that you have such little respect for our troops let alone your own boyfriend to even think about sending something as stupid as that. If I was your boyfriend and received a letter like that even if it said it was a joke at the end I would dump you like a hot potato. No guy needs drama like you at home. Your hardly being supportive of your boyfriends deployment tour if your sitting at home thinking up rubbish like this. Maybe find yourself a job to pass the time.

You're sick. What if he never gets the second letter? What if he goes out on a mission thinking he was dumped? I sure don't want him watching my Soldiers back after a letter like that. Even if you tell him it's a joke, he will always be wondering.
Use some brains!! These guys are not a vacation there where they can shrug this stuff off. Something like this can send a Soldier over the edge.
I hope he finds someone that is worth it and knows how to value him and his dedication to this country.
Oh yea, they do have women over there. It is not totally impossible for him to find one.

No, no and HELL no.
The military life is hard enough, there is misery and distress at being torn away from your home and family it is the pits even at its best.
You pull a stunt like that and what if he stops reading in the first sentence and tears the letter up not wanting to hear any more?
What if he reads it and doesn't believe the recant in the last line or forthcoming letter? You lose!
Why would you want to take a chance... it isn't a "funny" type of thing.
g-day!

You need to grow up. The fact that you would even think of sending something like that to a soldier under so much stress shows just how immature you truly are. He needs to wise up and dump your sorry unamerican butt and find someone who truly does care about him. It's not a funny joke, especially under these circumstances.
Here's a better idea, why don't you enlist. It sounds like you could benefit from the experience. Maybe it would help you grow up.

Here's an idea. Why don't you go ahead and really send a Dear John letter. I don't know, start it something like this.
Dear John,
I know your risking your life for me right now, so I thought I would write and tell you I am a complete moron and you can do much better.

Really bad joke. Also, just because you send two letters, does'nt mean they will get there a day apart. I have had things sent on the same day that arrived a month apart.
Also, its illegal to send sand in the mail. Its a customs violation and they do check packages.

I would say no. I know if I did that to my husband he would never get to the end of the letter. They are going throught a lot over there and dont need the added stress in case he could not even get to the end of the letter at one sitting.

I think your sense of humor is out of kilter in this situation. I received an real "Dear John" letter while overseas. I was devastated. You are fooling around with a lonely soldier in a dangerous situation. I do not think it would be funny at all. You are fooling around with someones emotions. Not a good thing to do under any circumstances.
