Ask A Vet: Why does my dog vomit so much?
Your dog throwing up could mean many things.
He is likely ill if you notice any of these other symptoms with his vomiting: diarrhea, loss of appetite, high fever, lethargy, bloody vomiting or stools. If your dog exhibits any of the above, contact your vet
An important point: Is he uninterested in his food after vomiting? If so, consult your vet. Normally, dogs who are not seriously ill feel fine almost immediately after vomiting and are happily ready to try eating again.
eating vomit is normal

Your dog may have eaten something that disagrees with his stomach. Dogs hate to be sick so they just vomit if they have a weird feeling in their stomach. Take him to the vet to see if something in his stomach is not the way it is supposed to be. As for his eating the vomit, he will do that because in the world of wolves and wild dogs sickness is weakness. He will eat his vomit so it seems that he never puked in the first place. As soon as he pukes take him to another place and clean it up. It is gross but he will eventually learn that he should not vomit unless he is truly sick. Take him to the vet and change his food if you have to. Good luck!

Alot of carniverous animals will vomit to get rid of parts of an animal (bones, excess skin, fur, etc) that they have eaten. Most often this will happen in domesticated animals as well. You need to look for other signs as well....is he eating and drinking well...how is his activity level...has it gone down...does he seem lethagic at all. Is he having any kind of loose stools? If its JUST the vomiting and theres no other signs going on I would'nt be concerned. If he starts showing other signs with this vomiting...take him to a vet right away.

The reason they vomit could be caused by an upset stomach. It could be that they ate something which was not good for them.
And the reason they eat "grass" is to heal themselves. When they eat those grass, it tends to help them vomit thus making them feel better.
They could also have infections. Your best bet would be go to the vet right away to prevent the worst.
And for your dog not to eat the vomit, clean it up right away once you see it.

you might want to try changing his food, mine used to do the same thing but once i changed his food it agreed better with him and he hasnt vomitted in a very long time, as for them eating it, i think thats there way of cleaning up their mess but try not to let the dog do that, hes vomitting for a reason so like i said it could be his food, ask your vet , he may also need to get used to one kind of food if your changing it alot and that could be the only problem but if he doesnt stablize on a food take him for a check up it could be serious...

Lots of dogs vomit to clean out their digestive system. He could just be sick if he just started doing it though. I'm not sure why they eat it though, but I think it helps get the nutrition into their system

Your dog does that because he ate something wrong. After that he would probably eat some grass, (that would help him not to anymore vomit).

Often, vomiting is not a cause for concern, but you should call your vet. Also, describe the vomit. Is it yellow, white, contain food, etc?
