Talk to Him like you would to your best friend. Remember He already knows your heart. Don't be afraid. Tell Him how you feel. You will be honoring Him by starting to talk and seek Him. God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. I'd like to tell you more but, I dont want to ruin all of the surprises.

I think the first thing to do is open the Bible to Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. Find out who Jesus is and what God is all about. Is that not what you do when you want to learn about something else? You study it.
You read these and study these. Then, you decided what religion is all about. Its not just about believing in someone who you can not see. Its about practicing a lifestyle of which is whole and proper in the eyes of God. Which, sounds all Holy, but once you read what it is that God expects of you, I think you will find he doesnt ask too much. I think by asking questions is the first step. Now, I think you should read some and do some studying. You may email me and talk more if you like. I have a very basic and simple outlook and Im not a "holy roller", but I do have faith and some very strong beliefs I would not mind sharing with you if you would like to talk.

(1) The way it worked for me was, my mom asked me, as a favor, to try praying. I was an atheist, about 17 years old, raised without religion. I said I didn't know how to pray and I felt dumb because I wasn't even sure anyone was listening. She said, "then just say that. Say, I don't even know if you're listening, but if you are, I would like to know you and understand more about you." That was something I could say with honesty, because if there was a God, I did want to know more about him. So I did it a few times. There were no immediate results, but gradually I started to see things differently. To make a long story short, about six years later I became a Christian.

(2) Read "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis. You can find it in any library and most book stores. It's a great introduction for people who would like to believe but find it difficult.

There was a time in my life when I felt just as you do. But I found out that this prayer stuff really works. With your prayer also read the scripture. Start with the four gospels. You might also get some benefit from Thomas Merton's "Seeds of Contemplation", Ask for God's help on your journey.

Jesus said "seek and you will find"! Ask God to help you find the truth! I believe you need to ask Jesus into your heart and accept that he paid the debt for your sin. That opens the door for God to be in your life. Do you realize you are a sinner? Would you like to change your ways? Ask Christ Jesus to come into your heart and start reading Gods word the Bible! God be with you dear one! Start reading with John 3:16-17.

Try this. Go somewhere where you are completely alone and sure no one will walk in on you. Get down on your knees and pray to Him and ask for guidance. Confess your sins and ask for His forgivness and ask Him to show you that He exists. If you feel nothing after that, then so be it. You haven't lost anything. If you feel Him come in to your heart after that, then you really gained something good.

All you need is to believe in God, ask (pray) for forgiveness of your sins, ask Him into your life and then continue to follow His commandments and read His word and pray. You have questions, you ask Him to show you in His word the answer. When you feel yourself backsliding and wanting to go back to your old ways, take it to Him. Tell Him you need strength and He will give it to you. And don't forget we are all here for you.

All you have to do is seek him. Bow you head and earnestly seek him. You'll be amazed.
