Because when you are thrown from the vehicle and splatter all over the pavement people might throw up. And the EMT and Bio hazard people have to clean you up.
Or it could be that the government likes to have one more thing they can give you a ticket for. :)

Not at all.
There are no seatbelts on motorcycles.
In the event of an accident, insurance pays.
Unless the other person has no insurance.
But, wait, guess what then? My insurance pays.
Edit: don't wager too much, Louis. My original answer was tongue-in cheek, as I only ride now.
I quite often wear my helmet, even though not required to.
And an armored jacket. Never shorts, never anything less than boots. I have the right to choose. That does not mean I make bad choices. Have any more misconceptions?
My real point was the total inaccuracy of the 'taxes pay for it' statement.

Any moron who says that it doesn't affect other people, should read this......A few years back, there was an accident a few miles from my house....4 teens in a car....driver lost control and rolled in the ditch. Couple in front seat were buckled in.....girl in back buckled in, but her "Macho" boyfriend wasn't. The 3 that were buckled in, would all have survived, except for the fact that Mr. Macho, on his way out through the windshield, and to his ultimate fate of being plastered on the pavement, hit the young lady in the front seat, snapping her neck, killing her instantly. The other 2 survived with barely any scratches. Studies have proven, that an ordinary box of Kleenex, on the back window of a car, can fly forward with enough force, in a head-on collision, to kill the driver, or passenger in the front seat. Think what a 150 lb body can do.
So, I would wager that the person who answered that motorcycles don't have seat belts, probably rides his motorcycle without a helmet, wearing shorts and a T-shirt.......As well, insurance companies may pay your claim, and raise your premiums, but ultimately will raise the premiums for everyone in that category of vehicles. I personally know the parents of that young lady that was killed, and nothing will convince them that Mr. Macho's not wearing his seat belt, affected nobody but himself.

My brother was hauling a load of logs and the road was ruff and the truck got to bouncing and tossed him out of the drivers seat. Fortunately no one was coming and he got the truck back under control before crashing. You could be driving down the road and drop off the right edge and sometimes there is a big drop off and a lot of people react by swerving back onto the roadway. If you did that you could possibly be tossed the the right side of the car and kill some one else instead of yourself. In most cases there is room to live inside of the car during a crash. When your car makes that sudden stop and you are not belted you don't stop till you hit the inside of the car or are thrown out. I was a state trooper for 30 years and saw many people who were killed while not using seat belts and very few killed when belts were in use. In those cases nothing would have saved them.

You can end up as a projectile in an accident if you are not wearing a seatbelt (frontseat or back) and you hit into someone walking past at the time.

Baloney. We pay for insurance to cover us. I have health insurance and life insurance. Any accident will cost tax payers nothing. And besides, I've paid taxes all my life anyway. What about all the welfare I have to pay for lazy people. That issue is a hoax used by the nosy busy bodies to force their views on the rest of us.

THE OTHER PEOPLE AROUND YOU LIKE THE DOCTORS, EMT'S, POLICE AND YOUR LOVE ONES WILL BE PUT UNDER EXTREME UNNECESSARY PRESSURE BECAUSE YOU DECIDE NOT TO WEAR YOUR SEAT-BELTS.
