Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
It's as simple as that, but getting saved is just the first step in becoming a Christian. Now you need to learn to walk the walk, but it's a walk of love, not of bondage like many would make you think.
From salvation on, what you do is for rewards, not salvation. You take care of that in one step.

And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment. Heb. 9:27
We are judged by the Ten Commandments.
Ever told a lie?
Ever hated anyone? See 1 John 3:15
Ever lusted after someone? See. Matt. 5:27-28
Ever blasphemed?
For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. James 2:10
Lawbreakers go to hell.
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Cor. 6:9-10
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Gal. 5:19-21
But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Rev. 21:8
This is clear and humbling. However God made a way so we wouldn't have to go to hell. Jesus (God in flesh) came to earth, lived a sinless life, and was crucified on our behalf. He rose three days later defeating death and in turn giving us an escape route from hell. But Jesus did command us to repent. That means to turn from sin to God. The perfect example of repentance is found in Psalm 51.
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:15
I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. Luke 13:3
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3
You see when you repent God gives you a new heart and new desires and they are desires to serve Him. As a result you are biblically born again! That my friend is good news!

I see alot of answers telling us to believe, as tho that is a magical saving act. First of all the devils believe and tremble. Believing in the Lord Jesus, means action on our part, not just an empty profession. If you believe, you will keep my commandments, says the Lord. If you believe AND are baptised , everyone of you, you shall be saved. If you become as a little child, which means believing the Lord Jesus, not necessarily understanding every thing he taught, but as a little child , just beleive it because our Lord God has revealed it to us, who cannot deceive or be deceived. Repent , everyone of you, confess your sins, and come follow me, Jesus said.

What must I do to be saved, that is, to be accepted of God and forgiven and loved as He loves Jesus?
The answer: Present your helpless case before God pleading the all-sufficient merits of the blood shed for you upon Calvary's cross because Christ's intercession in behalf of sinners in the sanctuary above is that of presenting His divine merits to the Father, claiming the gift of the Spirit that He may pour it upon us!
Looking unto Jesus and trusting in His merits alone, we receive the blessings of light nand peace and joy in the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit accomplishes everything, doing for us that which it is not in our power to do for ourselves!
As someone rightly stated: "Faith is the condition upon which God has seen fit to promise pardon to sinners. Not that there is any virtue in faith whereby salvation is merited but because faith can lay hold of the merits of Christ, the remedy provided for sin."

Repent of your sins. Look at the 10 Commandments and see how wretched God sees you, then trust in the sacrificial blood Jesus shed on the cross for you. Repentance and trust.
