You're right. This is the 21st Century, not the 1st Century. People really ought to have grown out of religion by now.

The people answering this question have not read their history books. Science is older than all religions. Except the old religion which is not really a religion. The Pagan truth is wise women and men of the village were scientists and if they were not persecuted by the modern religions we might of found a cure for some diseases

The growth of science has traditionally been in conjunction with religious activities...or at least religious changes. Certainly there was a boom during the reformation and after. Perhaps scientific progress would have been further without it. Certainly religious "superstitions", for lack of a better word, have had a chilling affect on science. However, for better or worse, most of our sciencific ethical theory comes from religious roots, if not directly from scientists that were priests, monks, etc. Science unbridled would be disasterous as well.
The root of scientific method was in fact established by Muslim scientists, most of whom were deeply religious men, working at the behest of a society ruled by religion. I am not arguing for or against your position, really...just providing some information for thought.

Religions bad mouth science but take advantage of the product. Ever see a tv evangelist riding a bike or walking? No, but they will ridicule science and evolution. Religion is NOT the answer for the world, common sense and reason with technological advancement are the answer.

Actually... the scientific revolution happened in post reformation Europe.. there was time and opportunity in many other areas of culture and religious though but the scientific revolution flourished under the idea that God made the world in a rational and discoverable manner and one should go out and look at and discover what God has done to His glory
so... actually... you are wrong but you don't realize it

Well without religion you wouldn't be sitting there with your wireless microchip powered laptop, staring at the Religion and Spirituality section.

While it's not a religion's job to contribute to technological findings. i see where you're going. No religion in history has made any strides in bettering mankind. We're far better off without them.

You assume those who contribute to the evolution of technological "things" do not have religious beliefs.
