There's absolutely nothing wrong with having fun on Halloween, Amby. It's an American tradition.
God bless!

I really don't celebrate either Halloween or Christmas for these reasons. Halloween originally was a pagan holiday and many still call it the day of the dead and believe that the spirit of the dead walks the earth on this night. Halloween is only associated to the devil because many Americans relate spirits to demons thus eventually to devil. In the 80's there was a big hype going on in parts of the country where supposingly "devil worshippers" were kidnapping virgin children for sacrifices of course I only remember the local hype so it could even be a myth. So that may be another reason why people associate Halloween to the Night of the Devil. It doesn't bother me that people still celebrate Halloween I guess because it has strayed so far away from it's origins because mankind prefers to find loopholes and do as they will. Many wiccans celebrate Halloween as the day of the dead and often times people associate Wiccans with devil worship but that really isn't the case at all because they more honor Mother Earth, and the elements, and all the likeness of that nature. Now is dressing up and getting free candy wrong is entirely up to you and what you believe and feel. If you feel that is it wrong then that would make it wrong for you. You are in control of YOU and you have power over YOU...no one else (unless you are under age- then your parents hope that they have control over you.) Your life and how you live it is entirely up to YOU and how YOU live it. Rather you celebrate any holiday my only advice from MY christian perspective is: Just reflect on what you are celebrating and don't make an Idol of it from any perspective.
As for Christmas, we have a family dinner because everyone has paid holidays and are off work but we don't exchange gifts anymore. I don't see the point why everyone wants to pick a few days out of the year to show their love for mankind when they should love one another on a daily basis. Christmas isn't Christmas in this greedy day and age really. Mankind has made Christmas into getting and giving gifts of a materialistic nature rather than what the Catholic church wanted Christmas to originally be: the celebration of his birth; therefore "Christ's Mass. Christmas wasn't originally a pagan holiday. The Catholic orthodox created Christmas in hope to convert the pagans to christianity. They chose the time of Christmas based upon the pagan festival which was the celebration of the Winter Soltice. Pagans, sometime referred to as Wiccan, celebrate all the seasonal changes.

Halloween is a Holy day of Witches and thus as Christians we should not participate in it! How can one claim to love Jesus and yet dress as a Demon, or other thing that Jesus has said are evil. What you see as fun is glorifying Witches, and believe me the witches enjoy seeing all the luke warm Christians out making fools of themselves on October 31 the Highest Holy Night of the Pagan year. I hope you never get the real trick of Satan and end up with drugged or poisoned candy that many sick people put out at this time of year. If you do that is Satan's treat and the trick then is on you. I noticed many Mormons that say they celebrate Halloween so maybe you should go to their church and feel good about celebrating with Witches and Mormons (who by their own admission teach "another gospel") becuase true Christians that Love Jesus would not do anything to give glory to Satan or to witches. Sorry to rain on your parade but the Bible is clear read Galatians 5
Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20 Idolatry, WITCHCRAFT, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that THEY WHICH DO SUCH THINGS SHALL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD.
Would you want to be out Trick or Treating when Jesus comes back?

Well you can say that it isn't really a holiday that glorifies evil but that doesn't make it so. Halloween is a day that children are told that it is alright to dress like the devil and that witches are good. If you were a true Christian then you wouldn't allow your children to take part in Halloween and you certainly wouldn't encourage neighborhood children by giving out candy to them. Check with your church and if it is a true Christian Church then they will have some sort of event like Bible study for the children that night so that they won't feel that they're missing out on an event.

I am a Latter-day Saint (Mormon), and though some people view us as uptight, we enjoy celebrating Halloween!
Actually, Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, right next to Christmas and the 4th of July!
Besides, many holidays today have been soo commercialized, that there is no religious meaning to them anymore... and someone will probably thumbs down me for that, but it's the truth!
Just celebrate it and have fun! Don't worry about those tight-wad Christians! They're probably the same ones that freaked out about the Harry Potter books! :oP

We always allowed our daughter to go out trick or treating on halloween. My wife and I have always enjoyed giving out the candy. Though I must confess that my dog thinks Halloween is terrible. :-)
I never understood the ruckus some Christians make over this holiday. We always had fun with it.

I don't celebrate haloween, but it's more than just the fact that it's a pagan holiday. There's a lot of witches, which, in real life, are evil devil worshippers. Then there's ghosts and goblins and all lot who i think are disgusting, never mind being made up.

Easter and christmas follow jewish holiday schedule. After all jesus and his apostles were jewish. Passover and easter are at the same time. Christmas and Hanukkha are not far off from each other. Day of the dead is a mexican holiday not christian holiday. All souls day is on Nov 2 and not Oct 31. I think america makes christian holidays pagan. In catholic and othordox countries they don't use santa claus, we have baby jesus.

beloved, be careful...the bible calls us to not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. As a believer...people should be able to tell that you are one. You shouldnt look like the next unbeliever..or lord forbid 'devil worshipper' dressed up in a witch outfit. I dont celebrate halloween with my kids because I teach them that the devil is out to 'steal, kill and destroy' believers, and witches and vampires and the concept of 'ghost's are not of God. Why then would I tell them that dressing like a devil or something satanic is 'fun'? What you are practicing is a double-mindedness in your faith for the sake of 'fun and candy'.

I'm Mormon.
Mormons are Christians.
We celebrate Halloween just like any other holiday. with costumes, decorations, fun, and a heaping load of candy. In fact, a LOT of children in costumes roam SLC on Halloween.
