My favorite is 'thou shall have NO gods before me' then flash forward to the NT and all of the sudden he becomes a triple diety, the father, son, and holy ghost. ~ Wiccan.

Why are not Christians allowed to have well known contradictions? Mine could be one already reported, the start thoughts. each Christmas you notice pageants made up from information in the two, yet they're thoroughly incompatible: a million) In Matthew, Bethlehem is their place of birth; in Luke, Nazareth 2) In Matthew, Jesus is born around 6 BCE (before the demise of Herod the super), in Luke 6 CE (on the time of the census of Quirinius) 3) In Matthew they're on the run from king Herod; in Luke they make a public visual charm in Jerusalem, his capitol. Contradictions are actually not purely for atheists. they're what enable liberal Christians to comprehend that the Bible can not merely be frequently going on at face value, that on the same time because it has powerful insights it additionally has teachings that are doubtful.

We have Ecclesiastes 7:20, which claims that there is not a single good person. Ever.

"For there is not a just man upon Earth, that doeth good and sinneth not."

This contradicts at least 45 other passages, such as:
(Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11, Hebrews 10:38, Habakkuk 2:4): "The just can live by faith." (But there are no just...)

(Genesis 6:9) "Noah was a just man and perfect."

Many, many others, check the source.

"fool said in his heart there is no God" ?

but i am not an atheist :)

TheAntichrist: I just checked Bible. Your quote is simply NOT there. Why lie when truth can be so easily exposed?

http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/1corinthians/1corinthians14.htm (from Yahoo search on verse you quote!)

====================
to Oliver S: two different lines. one is from Joseph, another from Mary. both lines show his right to be king of israel, and other things as well.

To all looking for contradictions: first understand how they are explained (SOURCE: 10+ years in software industry, specially in Quality Assurance field. main thing learned "there is always an explanation")

===========
Evan B: did not his sons have wives?... :) Simple explanation.

==============

to Krelboyne_Girl: if you read more in Genesis, you would see that Adam and Eve had MORE sons. They at least had one more son.

===============
to Night Owl: Jesus expressed regret over how many people are married to their wealth. He did NOT say money is bad. If money were bad, why would he accept donations? :)

This isn't so much a bible contradiction as it is a Christian contradiction. Jesus says that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get to heaven...and further says we should not be gathering treasure on earth, but gathering treasure for heaven...yet most of the Christians I know are totally focused on money. Look at our President...he claims to talk to God. I claim that if he talking to someone, it's not God...Jesus says he won't get into heaven...so who IS he talkin' with?

I'm not an atheist, but my favorite contradiction is psalm 14:1 - 'the fool says in his heart, there is no God' - because of course atheists are known for their intelligence (they tell us about it so much!)

Oh so many to choose from. How about the one where they can’t even decide on Joseph’s father

Matthew 1:16
And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

Luke 3:23
And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli.

Gen 4:19-22

And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle. And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ. And Zillah, she also bare Tubal- cain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.

This verse indicates that Cain's sons were the ancestors of low caste people such as shepherds, blacksmiths, minstels and prostitutes. However, since the male bloodline of Noah does not contain any of Cain's sons, All of their immediate descendants would have perished in the flood.

Besides all those "Thou shall not kill" ones, my favorite is 1 Corinthians 11:14 "Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him?"

Last time I checked, Jesus had long hair...

zoobrenok: It's chapter 11, not 14. Learn to search.

Oh, it's there all right.

Genesis by far. I want to add that Leviticus shows how the bible wants people to do terrible things to others in the name of god.
