Lots of people read korans, buddha's book, etc. to try to read get an understanding of them, but you have to keep in mind there are other spirits behind these religions and reading their work may open you up to spiritual attack. I'd go online and find some type of "cliff notes" version rather than actually read them and I definitely wouldn't have them in my home.

Quran is difficult to understand for a non-Muslim without the knowledge of background and circumstances under which most paragraphs were revealed to Prophet Mohammad. You should first read on internet about basic beliefs in Islam. Here are two web site to try reading before jumping on to Quran.

I think if you do not educate yourself about the ways of other religions, you can't enter into an intelligent debate or discussion about the merits of it compared to yours. Also, the more you know, the less you fear, and the stronger you become, intellectually and spiritually. There's nothing that says reading other religious texts will sway your personal beliefs, but you will increase your personal knowledge and hopefully, wisdom. How can that be a bad thing?

Honestly, I think Jesus would WANT people to be educated on other religions and not just follow him blindly. He'd want to have a following of people who CHOSE Christianity as opposed to being a family tradition, understand and agree with his teachings above all others...but you have to educate yourself about the others to do that. Read away.

Well of course not. Where did you get that idea from? Hey you might want to view my page on a comparison of the Koran and the Bible at http://www.bcbsr.com/topics/islam.html I include quotes from the Koran.
Besides when you compare the Bible with any other religion, the Bible always wins out.

here is another way to look on it: missionaries that go to other countries HAVE to study other country religions. not only mainstream, but even small ones.
in the same time, instead of / before reading quran you might want to read some book directed for people like you on understanding how to read / interpret quran. often people take text there outside of the cultural context, and get mad.
muhamed did do a lot for arabs, but he ain't what quran says he is.

Of course not. Still, it may not be a good idea unless one is truly grounded in what Christianity teaches and not the very shallow teachings that pass for "Christianity". People coming from the latter background form most of the neo-atheist trolls here on YA.

No, you will not go to Hell, instead you will learn new stuff about old religions and cultures. Hopefully you will have a better understanding of people not coming from your religion.

There is no sin in being educated. If you believe in old testament stories, the tree of knowledge has already been defiled...you can't do any more damage, and it's all been forgiven through Jesus.

No. In fact more Christians should read it (and, no, I'm not a Muslim). I say this because I see so many who make statements about the Qur'an who have obviously never read it. I've read it, and I know.
