The question is still operating on the age old prejudice that because you're an atheist you have no conscience because you don't believe the eternal invisible Boogeyman will punish you. It also presumes we're somehow "evil" and we actually have some deed to be held accountable for.

Oh yeah, THAT old argument.
If anything I'd say it's the opposite. I DO want to be accountable for my own actions and decisions. I don't feel the need to blame irresponsibility nor beneficial acts on invisible entities. By NOT believing in deity, that sure enough makes me accountable!
Think of what the statement implies on the believers' part. "If I didn't have God sitting in judgment of me, then I would go out and do all these vicious acts like killing and stealing and all these other things I just love to do." What does that say about THEM?

I am accountable for my deeds, to myself and those who depend on me. The worst feeling for me is when I think I've let somebody down. I make a lot of personal sacrifices to prevent this.
If I maintain a generous level of responsibility, phoo to any deity who isn't generous of heart enough to cut me some slack over my opinions or the way I manage to get sanity into my life. I've no use for them.

Atheists and many others ACCEPT that we ARE responsible for our deeds. If my actions (or lack thereof) hurt someone, I am responsible for that hurt.
There is NO "Incarnation of Evil" in my religion. Human beings are therefore the ones who MUST be responsible for human actions.
I think the persons who say this must think that atheists secretly believe in an afterlife existance where they will be punished for their actions and are trying to deny it.
From what I know of atheism, there is NO belief in ANY God and usually no belief in ANY sort of afterlife......

I think that's silly. Atheists don't believe in hocus pocus or a God that dictates how they live. If anything, Christians don't want to he help accountable for their deeds. If they do something bad they blame the devil, if they do something good they blame God.

Who said that?
My deeds are what shows the world who I am.
I'd prefer to be held accountable for my deeds, rather than for what amounts to an intrusive peek into my thought process.

We're not accountable?! So the police only applies to Christians? Cool!
Which is to say nothing of innate self-discipline.

Oh, THOSE deeds!
Well, I'm still accountable. But it's all consenting, and she's fine with it.
