The load resistance in parallel with the 2nd resistor of the divider will lower the value of the 2nd resistor, thereby lowering the total sum of the voltage divider.

A lot of people make that mistake when figuring voltage dividers -- they forget there will be a load resistance in parallel with the 2nd voltage divider resistor. However, if the load resistance is greater than 100x the divider resistor, then that effect is negligible.

Increase or decrease depending on the type of load and where the load is connected.
