I have this problem too, One thing I do a lot, but I've actually been told by docters you should not do is... do stuff other than sleep in bed such as (read, watch tv, play on the computer, or phone, ipod ) also you should not drink any caffinated drink after 4 pm. and you shouldn't eat anything after 6 pm. -
I haven't actually practiced this myself, so I can't really tell you if it works, but like I said- I've been told by the doctor, so if you try it and it works, let me know.

Having problems sleeping is a very difficult issue to address because it can involve so many things such as being nervous/anxious to having a hormonal or chemical imbalance in your brain. If this is a new problem, its most likely that you are just stressed out about stuff thats going on and its affecting your sleep. I would first try to just try to relax and put away your problems so they don't bother you while you're trying to sleep. Try writing down all the things that are on your mind and that are bothering you. This way they are down on paper and off your mind. If this doesn't work, talk to your parents about trying some melatonin or other natural remedies for sleep. If this still doesn't help you may wanna try taking some Sudafed or other over the counter sleeping pill, but once again, ask your parents about this. If this problem has been going on for a longer period of time, it may be due to something more serious and that would mean you should go and talk to a doctor about it so he/she can best help you through this. Good luck!

If you can't sleep, it's better not to stay in bed. Get up and do something to take your mind off of it. Then try again in an hour. You need to re-set your internal clock, so get back to a routine of going to bed at a certain time, and waking up in the morning. If this doesn't help, you can try "melatonin" which is an over the counter supplement you can buy at a drug store (I don't think you have to be 18), you take 1 tablet a half hour before bed, and it knocks you right out. You can do the same thing with benadryl. The only problem with these is that you might become dependent on them. Best thing is to ask your doctor for help.

Are you being stimulated by what is going on before you go to bed, like exciting TV program or book. Are you drinking things that have caffeine, or eating anything else that has caffeine? Is there something bothering you? Are you anxious or upset about something? There can be all sorts of reasons we have trouble falling asleep. Do you have medical problems? How about taking a bubble bath before doing to sleep?
