why are most americans afraid to honestly, logically and scientifically (real science, not magic) think thru a thing and consider it's merits??????

people fear what they don't understand- and they fear change even more.

But more than that... people are lazy and don't want to have to think about anything... it's easier to just go with what everybody else tells them to think.

I have "truly and really" considered a belief that was different from mine. Thus, I went from being an atheist to an agnostic to a theist to a Christian.

The way your question is phrased, it sounds like you think logic and science are the only things necessary to genuine thought. But faith is as much a matter of observation as logic. You don't use logic or science to prove who your mother is, or where Istanbul is. You take people's word for it. You don't have to travel to Istanbul to prove it exists, you infer it from the fact that it appears on maps (you assume the people who drew the map weren't lying), on airplane schedules, on TV once in a while. Your teachers tell you it exists. You put all this together and decide you believe Istanbul exists. None of this has anything to do with logic or science. Faith, on the intellectual level, works the same way.
