It starts anywhere from 6 -12 mo unless you get your dog spayed.
Dogs normally go into heat every 6 - 12 mo, but I've known some that go into heat 3 times a year. Very messy - best to have your dog spayed then you don't have to worry about the mess or an accidental breeding (puppies are very messy too and LOTS of work)

No dogs don't have periods they have heat cycles..Heat cycles & periods are totally opposite. Heat cycles are usually every 6 months but in some dogs it can be longer between them and some shorter.

yes. my lab has periods, but she hasn't had it in a long time, and I think that's because she's almost six and no longer able to reproduce.
