I had McAfee on my computer but i had to re-install window XP because i was having computer problems. Now for some reason it's not letting me install McAfee on my computer. Someone said it may be because i need to update windows. I have SP1 and SP2 and updated all i could. Is there anything else i could try? I paid $50.00 for McAfee and i would like to use it!

There are actually some free AV utilities that far surpass McAfee, AVG is good.

Write it off as an unneccesary expense and throw it in the trash. Get Kaspersky, Advent or AVG free from the web and use one of them. McAfee is not as good as they say they are, which is evident since it is given away or sold for as low as $1. It will slow down the system and do you too many unwanted favors in the computing arena. Real memory hog with the image size it loads.

If you had to re-install XP, then it sounds as if you may be having problems with good ol' Norton, which comes "wedded" to XP. (Tch, tch, Microsoft!) If you'd prefer McAfee (and who wouldn't???) then you may have to disable (or preferably, uninstall, dredge out, remove, erase, purge, discombobulate, etc.) Norton from your system. Then, getting McAfee going again shouldn't be a problem.

Sometimes, anti-virus programs insist on having sole dominion. They're like dogs, sort of "territorial".

What is the error message that it is giving. If it is about activating the activation key, call McAfee and they will help you.
