My dogs have terrorised the street, barking and running after cars, now they are going for people and children. They won't stay tied up so it looks like i've no other choice, really sad about this, I have them nearly 4 years.

I don't want to do this, they are my childrens kids and as you know, dogs are very loyal, this is upsetting me terrible to even think about it.
They won't stay tied up.

Don't worry, Animal Shelters get these sort of dogs all the time.
Give them to an animal shelter, they will train them, de-sex them (if you haven't) and do all the necessary work so that they can be re-homed with a new family. Hoever, I don't think this is the end.
Perhaps they need some more solid training, on your half.
Sometimes people feel that the dogs don't need official training, they just need to be told "no" when they do something they shouldn't. However, in all my encounters with dogs, the most "agreeable" ones were those that had been trained properly.
So, if you have settled on getting rid of your dogs, then give them to a shelter. You won't have to pay a cent and if worst comes for worst (which I hope not, no dog deserves to die because they were not trained properly), they will have to euthanize him, not you.
So, save yourself the guilt, save the lives of your dogs, (and yourself, in the eyes of your kids).
Take them to a shelter (SPCA, RSPCA, etc)

STOP! Mary, please consider carefully about what you are thinking of doing! I'm guessing that you have two dogs? Maybe between two and four children, all young? Does your partner work all day and is not much help to you? Please don't think i'm getting at you mary because i'm not, honest. Your question screams HELP and thats what i and many others on here will try to do. I'm forty years of age now and have friends my age and over who tell me time and time again of their childhood doggy friend that was destroyed for no good reason by their mum or dad ( things were very different then! ) and how they still, to this day, hold that against their parent! What will you say to your kids mary? That they've gone to a home in the country? It will come out when they're older you know, as things do, and they will resent you badly for it. Thats not what you want is it? Didn't think so! Lets put the kids aside for a minute now, you've had the dogs for 4 yrs so i'm presuming that they were pups when you got them? I'm sorry to be so condesending here mary but it's your fault the dogs are the way they are, you got them for your kids but didn't take the time out to train them properly. You concentrated all your efforts on bringing up your kids but didn't do the same for their pups. I know its hard to juggle the two but, ultimately, its not the dog's fault. They've been allowed to run riot and have gone unchecked for so long they don't know which way to turn. Can you afford to take them to training school? If not, ring the Battersea Dogs Home, they will help you all they can or ring your local RSPCA or PDSA and explain your dilema, they may be able to put you in touch with someone who can offer free training sessions so that your dogs can stay alive. Surely they've got to be worth that? They've given you all so much happiness and love over the last four years, especially your children, surely they deserve another chance? Please don't kill them just because you can't cope at the moment, with proper training they will get better. Until you can sort out the training, keep them indoors ( they won't break out of a locked door! ) and only take them out on a lead for toilet breaks. A good vet would never destroy a healthy dog either. Give them a chance and don't break your kid's hearts, please.

You madden me. Getting an invisiable fence would be cheaper than the cost of putting 4 dogs down. Your whole circumstance is YOUR fault and now your dogs are paying for it. Yes you have to pay for putting them down and the desposial of them. Are they spayed or neutered? How old are U???? Accidentally getting loose ONCE but several times you should of fixed that and your dogs should have been trained at least some. Find a rescue in your area and do them a favor and find responsible people to care for them. A dog should never be tied up all the time, did you exercise them give them attention other than a quick meal and fresh water if you even bothered to do that. People like you really really piss me off.

Its not as easy as you seem to think it is to have dogs euthanised. Did you think you could just take them to the vets and they'd happily do it because thats not how it happens. In answer to your question...yes you have to pay, did you honestly think you would get it done for free!!! You've obviously never had a much loved pet put to sleep before because if you had you wouldn't be so flippant about it. We had to make the decision for our very much loved golden labrador when she was 8 years old. She had a brain tumour, was having fits and went blind practically overnight. She was in a very bad way. This was over 15 years ago but it still makes us cry thinking about it. We stayed with her while she received the injection and we've missed her everyday since despite having had other pets and our current dog whom we love dearly.....and you think you can just do that after having them for 4 years?! You need to address the problems they have which are probably easily rectified if you go about it properly. If you really cannot cope with them then see if the RSPCA can take them or even advertise them in your local paper as "free to good home". You could tell people about your problems and that you can't manage to train them. If you're tying them up all the time you'll never get them sorted out. Please think very carefully about what you're going to do but euthanasia should be the very last resort not the only solution.

Unbelievable - Why didn't you train them?
There is no such thing as a vicious, spiteful dog - just vicious spiteful owners!!
Give the dogs to the RSPCA or something - at least then the poor things stand a chance of being trained and taught properly!
In the UK vets will not destroy a healthy animal unless the police or a court order tell them to.
But yes you do have to pay to have an animal euthanized.

Yes, it does cost money to have the dog put down and cremated. It is generally over $150 for larger dogs (mastiff size) and goes down gradually per poundage. This is because they have to use more of the drug for the bigger dogs and less for little ones. The larger ones also take longer to cremate.
I'm sad that you have to do that. You should try making them indoor dogs. Most of the time that will solve outdoor behavior problems. Dogs do that sort of thing when they are tied up outside because they get lonely and bored and they have no pack to be with. Bringing them indoors will solve the problem most of the time.
It's worth a try!

I think it is a terrible shame that your dogs have to suffer death because of your inability to take responsibility for them and train them not to do these kinds of things. Tying dogs up makes the behavior that much worse, and that is on your head, too. Not only do I think you should have to pay, but I hope it is so much money that you decide to never own animals again.
Your poor dogs never had a chance living in your home (or should I say tied up outside it).

There is no such thing as an untrainable bad dog - just daft owners. Do you ever take them for a walk? Play with them? Pay them any attention at all? Or do your kids? For heavens sake, try getting them rehomed with someone who will do all that, if you can't. It truly sickens me that people will have a dog put down because they 'can't cope' - seriously, make a bit of an effort to find them someone who can really look after them properly, if you can't. And next time, buy a cat.

Yes, but a lot of animal behaviour can be changed by some sessions with a proper pet behavioural trainer (also costly - I had some for my dog Smudge-RIP, but very good) and a LOT of hard work on your part. It isn't fair to keep them tied up all the time. If you don't want to consider this, please consider rehoming them first as somebody else might have the patience to do this which is what they deserve.

Have you dogs bitten anyone? If not I suggest bringing them to a shelter and giving them a 2nd chance. Unruly dogs can be taught how to behave when given time, attention, patience and love.
If they have bitten, then you have completely failed these dogs and know that they will be euthanized not because they are bad dogs, but because you are a bad dog owner.
Please don't get another dog.
You sound like a horrible dog owner. Have you spent anytime training your dogs? Have you considered fencing in you yard? Have you considered not leaving you dogs tied up unsupervised for extended periods of time?
