Myself and my Hubby (both mid twenties if that matters) are due to go to Halifax on the 4th Oct as we are moving there next summer.
I need some ideas of where to go (seen the websites like virtual tourist) other than the really tourist things (and the bars- dont want to spend all day in there ) i.e I want to go to a supermarket/ gocery store to see price difference - so want a big one! and good take outs!! :)
Any help is great!

Take a walk down Spring Garden Road. You'll be on the main shopping drag of Halifax. Be sure to explore some of the side streets, where some of the more interesting shops, cafes and restaurants are. If you want a good grocery store, there are several Superstores around. The one on Joseph Howe is one of the biggest. If you are at all into organic / health / natural food, check out the Planet Organic on Quinpool Road. Quinpool is a funky place for a drive. It has a smaller Superstore, as well. The Big Box stores are congregated at Bayers Lake (why anyone would want to see that is beyond me, but, hey, different strokes.)
Robie Street is the longest street in Halifax, it goes from one end of the peninsula to the other. At the north end of Robie you'll come to Cousin's Restaurant, a great "diner" and a little bit before that, near Young Street is Tarek's - fantastic take out food (or eat in.) Also in this area check out the Hydrostone Neighbourhood. Very historical and quaint neighbourhood with some fun shops. Head east on Young Street to get to the shops and north to see the neighbourhood.
Point Pleasant Park is worth a visit - all the way at the south end. That's where the rich folks live, too. It's a fun drive if you want to see the "mansions."
If you want a mall, I'd suggest Halifax Shopping Centre.
There are about a million coffee shops around town. You could just do a tour and get a pretty good feel for the city. And there is usually live music going on somewhere. The Rebecca Cohn is a more intimate formal venue if you don't want to do the bar thing. Or maybe you did want to do the bar thing - there's usually music going on in some of the bars, as well.
Anyway, you're going to love Halifax. It's a great place to live. Welcome!

There is hockey (well its Canada after all) I don't remember which team the Halifax Mooseheads are a farm team off. Also there are some live TV shows taped there, the Halifax comedy festival

Scotia Square is the big shopping centre and i know you said you didn't want to do touristy but the harbour hopper amphibious tour was ace.
The Mic Mac mall is the place to go for discount shopping, you can get there form Hlifax on the Metro transit buses
