Why does hatred only move in one direction, for me it is because I see those hating the Church as being on the same journey as I? I was once where they were, thinking I hated the Church when in fact I was fighting against the Spirit moving in my life. I failed to recognize that I was being blessed. In the process I have learned more than anything else that it is impossible to love God and His Church and at the same time to hate those who despise His Church. Perhaps it is the fullness of faith, of worship or practice but most probably the exercise of His greatest commandment to love for all humanity for as He loves us we are to love others. The greatest expression of this love and the fruit of our conversion is the antithesis of our flesh which is to love our enemies. For, it is written, the Christian is to love even those who hate His Church. May the Lord bless us all?

In Christ,
Fr. Joseph

I don't hate those who hate me for being Catholic because if i were raised as some of them were with the most horrible 'Maria Monk" stuff about Catholics and Catholicism mabe I would be worse a hater than they are.

If I were raised in or sought acceptance in an environment that encouraged "hatred for Jesus' ,as an ex -SDA friend of mine put it but whose family would never phrase it that way, or "Hatred for Freedom and Progress" as some libertarians or some hedonists or some Far Left or Far Right would act out, maybe I would be a worse hater than they are.

"There but for the grace of God,go I"

Those Secularist/Fundamentalists or religious ( of whatever type or religion )Fundamentalists who fully believe (or desperately want to) every horrible legend or rumor or actual old atrocity and who are cynical about our every motive for each act and word of ours need our patience and persistence and humor in explaining our faith, morals, practices and relationship with God even when then respond with bitter or/and hysterical nastiness.

Our enemies need our prayers especially and the example of our striving by grace to live the teachings of the Lord and His Church with faith, hope and love. Our enemies and everybody needs the example that we with our our good points and failings are just and as fully human as they are.

i wouldn't generalize, but generally speaking yes.

generally, catholics do their own thing and don't care about the haters. until i started Yahoo Answers i wasn't even aware there still were haters.

but generally the anti-catholics need to denounce catholicism to give what they believe more credit.

they may feel if catholic is true, they're screwed for going with an apostate church.(even though the catholic church teaches different, that you can be saved even if you're not catholic)

pass that along for a few generation and you get the guy above who spells Catholic with a K(or maybe he's referring to the secret "Katholic Church" that lives with the mole people under the surface of the moon?)

and to the guy who said Fr. Joseph does the same thing, he doesn't. He presents arguments while most anti-catholic "arguments" end with "catholics are going to Hell, they're unsaved Heathens who worship bones and apple pie", you don't see Fr. Joseph making an account called "Rotestnats R Stoopid" (like some other answerer)

I believe that the Holy Spirit has given to different parts of the body of Christ different charisms and graces and that Catholics special grace is love, and kindness.

At least in this day and age, i cannot speak for hundreds of years ago, or even 50 years ago. Every church represented here is a different church than they were one hundred years ago, thank God.

I assume that most Baptists are not members of the KKK any more nor Lutherans members of the Nazi party any more. I assume also that Episcopalians and Anglicans are no longer persecuting the Presbyterians also.

As an atheist, i do no longer hate catholics. I trust maximum of what others suggested different than for the crusades. I see the crusades as some thing helpful. It became needed for christianity to push away islam. Islam has been a difficulty and maintains to be. this is unhappy that jews have been killed interior the technique. different than that, catholics tutor some sanity. -they do no longer ascertain or deny the Shroud of Turin as genuine yet they are heading in direction of a probably faux. -evolution concept is familiar -enormous bang concept is familiar

Shema my brother in faith and separated brothers.

In our catechism you will never find hatred for our separated brother on the contrary you will find complements. If you separated brother would only put time and read the catechism of Catholic church and read a book about catholic answers you would understand use more and would not have the misunderstand that you have over use. I guarantee that you would say catholic also fallow the bible in another deep way or you would become one. Let me tell you something you may be afraid to find the truth your self. May be you are afraid of being wrong and it putting a barrier of hated or despise on use.

Father,

Your point is exactly the reson one of my good friends became Catholic.

She was raped in college and became pregnant. She refused to have an abortion and kept her son. She had been studying for the Protestant ministry ( and was raped by a man who is now a protestant youth minister!)...no protestant church would hire her for youth ministry because she had a child out of wedlock- EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS RAPED!

She told me that only the Catholics refused to judge her, only the Catholics helped her and respected her decision....and so she ignored what she had been taught about the Church and investigated for herself.

She is now our high school youth minister, her son got a full ride for college, and she continues to inspire me every day.

Protestants seem to be so busy condemning without learning the truth that they shut themselves off from it completely.

These answers show ignorance in Christ's Church and an uncharitable attitude towards Christ's faithful. It shows that there is very much hatred against the Church which was created by Christ and the disciples in favor of man-made beliefs and practices. It shows a lack of fear for God and His commandments that one would bear false witness against His Church. May we all pray for God's mercy for those so lost in hatred, so that they may find love and charity

We cannot hate our wayward brothers and sisters. All roads lead to God, some go by way of Rome. I have always wondered why they try so desperately to justify their position. Could it be doubt? Good post.

I can't imagine where in the bible you found you were able to find scripture to support hating anyone. We are to love and teach one another, giving them the opportunity to realize that you didn't hate Christians, but you instead had an ungodly spirit within you that hated Christians. We are not in battle against each other. We are in spiritual warfare against Satan.
