I have been using Afrin for about 6 months now and realize that I am using more and more and a lot more frequently. Anybody kick this addiction before? If so, how'd you do it?
Thanks so much! Please help me!!!!

YES, that stuff will eat a hole in your sinus's and cause all kinds of bleeding problems etc. You are getting what is called a "rebound effect". go to the store, buy a bottle of "ocean spray" for your nose. It is in the same section as the afrin. It is SAFE being made up of only purified water and sea salt. Use it constantly. It stops the dryness in your sinus, it relieves swelling, it helps heal the damage to your nose/sinus, it helps prevent allergies and helps you get away from using nose sprays like afrin. You may need to talk to am ear nose and throat specialist too. I went thru what your doing, but was using "4way" nasal spray. By the time I figured out I had a problem with it and went to a specialist, it had eaten a hole thru my septum and was causing horrible nose bleeds. I had minor surgery to repair the damage. I now use "ocean spray" only and I am breathing just fine, no stuffy nose, les allergy problems and best of all, I have only used a nose spray twice in the last 6 months, and then only one time to help with a head cold and once with a really bad allergic reaction.
Good luck

Actually, I see this quite often. You're certainly not alone!

The best thing I've found is for people who are afflicted by this "addiction" is to start using Saline Nasal Spray.

There's a brand on the market called "Simply Saline," that is VERY simple to use. I typically suggest these folks to give 2-3 squirts in each nostril, then gently blow it out. Do this 4-6 times a day. It will hydrate the mucosa and flush out debris that often causes the inflammation associated with a stuffy nose.

Don't forget to throw out the Afrin too! ;)
