It's not more difficult for women, in fact many women can climax in more than one way (from vaginal stimulation, and clitoral). The easiest way most women climax, is from stimulation of the clitoris (fingers, tongue, toy, etc) and that's typically what most women target when they masturbate.
Vaginal (internal) climax is more difficult, some women never manage it, but that's not as easy to give to yourself but can be done...or penetration with a toy, fingers, or penis.
The sensation of climax is typically fairly strong...it might be tingly and you feel your heart beat faster, breathing rate increase, and your whole body just throbs...it's not exactly the same for everyone, but when it happens you'll realize what it was.
