most money, least time, job placement, college payment. What I really want is a big chart of what all the branches can do for you and what they cant. But I cant seem to find one anywhere.

Me...me...me...........

"Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."
-John F. Kennedy

You pick a service, serve your time well and take what rewards are due.... OR get a job, put yourself through college and get what rewards you earn.

g-day!

Don't let the other answers discourage you. You want to serve your country and you are try to be smart about it. IMO, you have two best choices. Air Force is probably safer. However, Army will give you the most of the things you mentioned, but careful consider your MOS. You need one that you can do something with when you get out or this will be wasted time. My BIL is Army (going back to Iraq for the 25th time this weekend) and he is a helicopter mechanic. Sounds like a great skill to have, right? Wrong! He came out and tried to get a job. All he could get were jobs working for military contractors - no permanent job (no security), in a terrible part of the country (my Sis couldn't find a decent job in graphic design there), no benefits (Sis had to take a job so they could have health insurance). He had to rejoin and sign on to stay until he can retire so he will get enough money to pay the bills while he goes back to school at age 40 to get a degree. On the other hand, my Hus was Army, a medic (in the Gulf War). When he got out, he used his skills to work as a Paramedic to put himself through college to get his RN.
Good luck and best wishes.

Dude listen to what you saying. Nobody joins for the money. Benefits are pretty much equal so your not going to get an edge with a particular branch. The best thing you can do is look at different jobs and make sure your qualified for the ones that translate into real world experience. I've heard the Air Force get better living quarters but that really depends on where your stationed. I was in the Marines and can say that we didn't always have the best but I wouldn't have traded if I could have.

The Army (specifically the national guard) has the most to offer because they get state and federal funding. this means they can offer a higher bonus, more school loan money, etc.

It really doesn't matter which branch you go into, if they want you bad enough they'll make something happen for you...just stick to your terms and not theirs....you may piss off your recruiter, but you'll never see them after you leave for basic so do whats good for you...you'll be doing whats best for them for at least 4 years.

The other thing to make sure of, is that you're eligible to get any assistance, loans, grants, bonuses....before you even sign the contract....most of the time they'll put the offer on the table, and then after you've signed you'll realize that you don't get the cash til the middle or end of the enlistment, they'll say you're ineligible for bonus based on your duty location, or they'll just put off the paperwork so long that by the time you do get it, its not worth it.

just stick to your guns and make sure you READ EVERYTHING before you sign up.

Have you ever seen an Occupational Outlook Handbook? Try to get one at the libary. That might help.

I'll tell you what I know. Active duty for any branch will provide more money for college than the reserves or guard. The shortest contracts are found in the Army. When you EST the help you get started finding a job. Money depends on rank and bonus- which depends on your MOS. Your best bet is to keep researching and talking to recruiters.

For starters unless you want to commit for the full 4yrs your chance of getting a job with a assigned school for any real length are slim, Now if not doing 4yrs is your main concern then look at what the Army is offering as far as a signing bonus. All services offer a Montgomery GI bill so I remember right them min is around $14,000 for the completion of your Honorable service. Just go with sum one you trust and ask the recruiters they give better information than all of the smart people who have NEVER been in the service. I am a ret 20yr Navy guy who also did a stint as a recruiter feel free to ask me what ever.

I wouldn't join the military if you are looking just for those reasons.

Pretty much all branches will give you 100% college- I have never heard differently from people.

Best thing to do is contact a recruiter from each branch and talk with them etc. to find what you want.

You arent shopping for a corporate position. The different branches of the military dont compete for you on the scale of a harvard mba looking for his first assignment. You select a job, you go to boot, you get your pre-deployment leave, then you go get shot at. They all pay the same, they all have the same college benifits, they all offer the same enlistment lengths, and often as not, despite what the recruiter tells you, they will pick the job you get. Its the military not the fortune 500. Go rent private Benjamin, she was disapointed with the lack of condo availability too.

With a question worded like that, I wouldn't want you in my unit. If you're looking for what the military can do FOR you instead of what you can GIVE to the military, look elsewhere for that golden parachute. The reason you can't find a big old chart listing all the things the military is going to do FOR you is that they don't want people that are just going to be takers. You're a taker.

The military offers every job in the civilian world except teacher, from garbage collector to underwater basket weaver. I know that the Army will pay college and like a 10-20k enlistment bonus for computer techs.

Join the air force if you really feel the need to go into the military. At least you are further from the action. What good is the most money if you are dead?
