Hell as a fiery place of eternal physical torment is a (comparatively) modern notion, replacing the traditional view of it as a solitary, desolate place where the torment is spiritual due to the total absence of the presence of God.
Due to my inability to find any evidence or inclination of the existence of God or his/her influence on earth, I can only conclude that earth is in fact Hell, And I would gladly lord over you all.

BTW - (being a trek fan) ... The Star Trek Episode (the re-mastered ones) "Space Seed",The one with Khan...
It (mostly) ended with that quote. Sending Khan off to Seti Alpha V.
also - that quote is indeed Milton "Paradise Lost"

Interesting question... and really a tip-off of human dynamic. A star for you....
Anyway:
I've found that through my bad situations in life (partly my decisions, and partly others'), I prefer to make my situation more positive by taking over and being in control - but the bad situation turned into a positive one is where my comfort comes in. I don't like confrontation, or things to be in disarray, so my taking control means for me, that things can be done in a way that I see as correct. But, I'm serving not only myself, but others in this situation as well. Let me explain:
I get pure satisfaction out of making other people happy. Therefore, being a servant in a good place ideally suits me. I get more satisfaction out of serving to make others happy (sometimes even if I find later that they don't deserve it), than having control over a bad situation. However the same goal is in pursuit for me:
To make all situations pleasurable, for everyone.

Satan is a deceiver, liar, seeking souls to consume, and power hungry wanting to rule higher than God, so how could anyone think and trust that they would each get to rule ??? Isn't that like Bush and Bin Laden? each trying to rule? a lot of death and destuction and pain and sadness and comes from it. What good is it to gain the world and lose your soul in hell, when we could otherwise live in peace amongst each other, no one dominating or controlling or struggling against each other in ultimately 'zero-sum' games. With Heaven's way, all things are possible, so what do you need to "rule" for then?

Just for the record: that quote is from Milton's "Paradise Lost", not the Bible. Great quote though.
I'm concerned with RESULTS and getting things DONE. Sometimes working under leadership is the best way to do it, though more often I find that the DIY approach gives much better results.

I prefer comfort any day, I am just not a take charge person, let someone else deal with the stress.

I think if Satan did exist he had a right to overthrow God. God was the kind of person that demanded obedience or torment.
Perhaps Satan didn't like the way he was treated and didn't feel comfortable.
How can one be comfortable knowing one could change a bad situation but refusing to do so?

Funny, I thought that was Milton.
My attempts to 'rule' have never been very effective. I don't mind putting someone in charge who actually KNOWS what's going on!

Oh, you speak to Satan now, do you? And he told you that he would be in charge in Hell?

Satan didn't say that - John Milton did.
Anyway - I hate managing, so I'd choose comfort if it meant I didn't have to be the boss.
