I'd like to know, from those of you who have legally immigrated and naturalized, how you feel about the immigration problems in the U.S.? Do you have empathy for illegal aliens, or does it upset you?

I'm looking for serious, honest opinions. Thanks in advance for your respectul answers.

Most unfriendly administration I have ever seen.

It´s probably worse than Ellis Island in the embassies.

I was already married, held 2 Bachelors and was Germany´s best student in renewable energies... but still the administration made it so difficult. The US administration lied to me... they wanted me to have an affidavit of support which I do not need since I inherited a house worth over 80,000 €.

In turn, I had to call a US senator with my wife to stop this banana-republic-story.

I think I am just too stupid to be legal and I should just have crawled under the fence on the Mexican border

As a legal immigrant (who isn't naturalized yet, and probably never will be) ... I do NOT have empathy for illegal aliens.

The choice is there to either do it the legal way (even if it can be a tremendous pain, and the rules change more frequently than I care to enumerate!), or to skip the hassle and do it illegally.

As far as I know, all nations have the same meaning for the term "illegal"; that is, it means "against the law". In my opinion, entering the country more-or-less indicates that the individual agrees to abide by the laws of the country being entered ... regardless of whether the entry itself was legally accomplished. That being said ... an illegal entry (or other illegal act) should be punished according to the laws of the nation involved ... but done IMPARTIALLY to all, including citizens.

My husband came to the USA back in 1973. He was a refugee from communist Hungary.
He has NEVER complained about having to live in a refugee camp for a year and other tough things he has gone through.
He became a naturalized US citizen in 1980.
We were already married and had a son but he did it all on his own and never used the married to an American card.
