And i am well upset. Thought i was in with a chance. They told me i had got a conditional acceptance and then rang up tonight to tell me they were retracting offer. My advice is dont apply to work for a bank. Anybody else ever had this problem

You should ask why they are retracting the offer? Is it a bad reference, or something wrong with your credit check etc. Would be important to know for future jobs (in case there is somebody bad mouthing you and all that - you don't want to keep using them as a referee!)

Good luck finding a job!!

Yes I have been rejected for jobs too after thinking I would be
successful when I sent in my Form. I knew I failed because I was not good enough. That is life in the world of work!. The only remedy is expressed in that maxim "if at first you don't succeeded try try again". That is what I did and got a job with somebody else. Suggest you do the same!

RBS are bas*ards they have taken over a company that I was paying off a loan to at a prearranged amount per month. But they would not accept the amount I was paying and so issued me with a County Court summons. Eventually the judge agreed that the amount I was paying was reasonable and so they are now accepting what I was paying before... the difference is that I now have a CCJ against me and the costs of £560 have been added to the debt ...the arsh*les.

If it was a conditional offer that means they like you but they have to do some background checking. They obviously found out something negative either from a reference, a credit check, a criminal background check, or a drug test. A bank will do a lot of research before they'll trust you to handle money (can you blame them?).

If you genuinely don't know what they might have found, you can try asking; they might not tell you.

Most likely you failed the Credit check.

If you are living in the same house as some-one with poor credit (eg. defaulted on payments or abandoned a Mobile Phone contract), that could do it.

This could stop you getting other jobs .. your may need to 'disassociate' yourself from them
