I saw some statistics that 1/3 of children in America grow up in homes where neither adult knows how to cook.
That is sad!!!!
My mom was an awesome cook. There were 9 children and we did not have a lot of money. She had a huge garden, we had a brooder house of chickens, and we butchered a hog every year. Even so, times were lean.
She could take just a little bit of meat, combine it with a stuffing, or pasta, and make an incredible meal.
I think the most incredible thing about growing up in a poor, rural home was the number of ways that beans, potatoes, and a little meat could be creatively made into nutritious and tasty dishes.
I thought we were deprived. In retrospect, we probably ate very, very healthy. It is amazing but our 'poor folks' diet mimicked very closely the healthy diet that all the experts are touting to day. Lots of hearty grains and lean protein, fresh vegetables and fruit.
My Mom probably canned about 500- 700 jars of fruit, vegetables, preserves, each year and it saw us through some very lean winters.
God bless her and all those Moms who sacrifice so much!

yeah, well what do you expect?
whats for Tea mum? has got to be the most asked question in the world... and mum has to be creative...
why not try cooking a meal for once... im sure mum will even clean up after you... just think, 5 basic ingredients, 5000 possible combinations...
and if your living at KFC, then anything which has been actually cooked and prepared has got to be better than carboard burgers and stale bread products...

My mom is 71 now and she is a BRILLIANT cook! She used to do more cooking when me and my brother were young - we always had puddings after our cooked meals. She did baking on a Sunday, making cakes and bread rolls. Her roast dinners are beautiful....well, everything she cooks is beaautiful. So, all you folks out there with mothers who are bad cooks, its a shame you can't taste my mothers cooking. I give her 10/10 every time.

At the time I thought it was great. Then I learned how to cook and realized that mom's 1960's cooking was not all that. Don't get me wrong though, she fed us, we ate it, and we loved it back then, and I do miss some of mom's good ol' recipes.

I don't know because my mum was a very ill woman and never cooked, she died when I was 15, so, you had better ask my girls.. they would probably say I wasn't a good cook, although, they are in their 40's and fit as fiddles so I can't have done so badly..

At least my mom doesn't think she's a good cook, lol. In her defense I have to say that for years she cleaned the house and my nan did the cooking, and it takes a lot to top my nan's cooking!!!

Why don't you cook?
My mother makes the best chicken and noodles from scratch. No one else has the same touch that she does. My mom is 87 years old.
I ate what she prepared when I was growing up. It tasted fine. It was a meat and vegetables menu but that's what we grew up on.

My mom is an awesome cook except that she always makes the SAME things over and over again. I wish she would find some new recipes!

i love my mom but i have never cared very much for her cooking. i usually prefer my own cooking over most other peoples but everyone says thats just because im picky and ive trained with some of the top chefs in the U.S. lol. i will say this though, when you are sick, nothing beats your moms homecooked meals, even if its jello!
