Well the armchair generals here will tell you that since they have such a large military and population they are oh so much better.
Ok...Look at China's gross domestic product, then look at the US's.
Do you realistically think they have the resources to train, equip, field, and sustain the amount of people they have listed in their armed forces?
No...its window dressing if anything.
They do not have the economic ability to go toe to toe with the US period.
They have alot of troops, woopety do! We have alot of neat little toys that can kill large amounts of troops and no I dont mean nukes or chem/bio weapons. Having a large amount of people in your armed forces just means that once we establish air superiority (and yes we would) then we can just have more targets to bomb the hell out of. So this very large number of troops/equipment/building would be smoking rubble within weeks. I do not think they could mount even an effective defensive campaign as some others have mentioned. You cannot fight when you have no orders, communications, food, water, bullets ect ect. All that would be gone once the US got control of the air.
If we did go to war with them their entire military would be a fraction of what it is now in a matter of weeks, no I am not kidding.
They simply do not have the logistical/economic ability to field the amount of people they have on paper.
If blood makes the grass grow, it would be real green in China if that happened.
A conventional war is EXACTLY the US's game.
All that aside, China is more of an ally now if anything. China today will not be around in 20 years they are moving toward a free, friendly, democratic society and they are proving that daily.
Honestly I think that they will be one of our greatest allies in the coming years.

They have a very large military number wise. This however does not make a good strong military force. They are restricted by the range that their military can reach to areas close by their land. These numbers like the soviet military might is what is helping to hurt their Communistic form of Government and will eventually help in their demise. * They also lack good high quality and high tech equipment needed for their troops in a battle. High numbers they have can overrun many they face with lower force strength, but the smaller forces would extract very high costs before being defeated. Every battle China fights weakens there economic strength. Unlike in a democracy where the checks and balances help out. The United States in a war with china could actually fight the Chinese without ever landing on their home soil. The Chinese CAN NOT do this.

The Chinese military is large and fairly well trained but is lacking in first tier armor nd aircraft; the artillery is not quite top of the shelf but is one area where the quantity can offset the quality to a degree. At this time they are not a match for the U.S. military because the disparity between aircraft and armor is to much in the U.S. balance based on technology. They are making fast progress through purchasing, reverse engineering and designing with mainly Russian assistance many new and vastly improved aircraft and armored units. These are still not a match for the U.S. equipment on a one for one, or even better basis, but as the quality improves they do get more dangerous. They do not have a deep water navy threat so no means to "attack" the U.S. directly but the U.S. would be extremely pushed to get into a mainland ground war with them especially if tactical nuclear weapons were totally off the table. They have no means to engage us on our home territory and we would be foolish to attempt to engage them on theirs; so it is basically an draw for the time being. Long term with the manpower available, cash on hand (trade surplus) and technical help from plus a military assistance/mutual aid treaty with the Russians they are the biggest threat to the U.S. from any one country. Islamic jihadists may be bigger threat in the future but too many variables to call that true right now.

Hard to tell. They did a very good job in Korea but the troops they were using were WWII vets. They have a large army but few have recent combat experience. Except for border clashes with India and the USSR the have had little recent action. That is the only advantage that will come of Iraq. We will renew the pool of NCO's and officers that have seen combat. I agree that a major goal of the Chinese is to improve their equipment. They are also moving in the direction of a blue water navy.
But right now, they are not a military threat to the US.

Probably not as prepared... probably not as technological... probably as well equipped... probably as motivated... but it's moot... they could lose10 to 1 and not make a dent in their armed forces while decimating ours.... in a "conventional war."
However, I don't think they can fight a conventional war. They don't have the logistical capabilities to field an army that size anywhere in the world... except in the US... (illegal aliens... some 20 million of 'em).
Their troops will fight and win a defensive war... no question. They will be defendint heir own soil. And there are millions of 'em.
If they launch an offensive war, it will be nuclear. And nobody will win that.
More than likely they'll continue to supply weapons and technology to third-world coiuntries... like Russia is doing.
In the mean time, they'll abuse their favored nation status by buying up the US. Then, our only option will be to freeze their assets. They;ll freeze ours, and we'll come out a little ahead.

You can't compare how good each army is, because each has their own very distinct strengths, weaknesses and general purpose. It goes beyond the old manpower vs technology argument, too.
But if it counts for anything, I've never seen drill done snappier than the way Chinese soldiers do it.

Their only ACE is they have people to spare. I good war would improve their ecomomy. If there was really any comparison then it would be up in the air with who was the "World Power". At this point anyway I don't think anyone doubts the US being the most powerful Nation on earth, if they do they sure aren't speaking out loud about it.

the chinese are much much more powerful. we could NOT win a war with them. see first they would screw with our economy, essentially shutting it down, then they have a TON of troops, and i'm sure they aren't afraid to "draft" people like we are, also they have been concealing (for YEARS) exactly how much $$$$ they have been spending on their defense industry. Top that with the fact that they were in an alliance w/ russia for years (so who knows how many nukes they possess) and you have us all speaking Chinese the minute they decide to go to war with us (if they do) over Taiwan or whatever...
get out your little Red Book while you still can

There are more of them, they are very well trained, extremely loyal, and much better rested. They haven't been pulling three and four tours of duty in a hell hole for the past several years.
