Most people mistake peace for control. The victor in a war gains control. What they do with that control dictates whether there will be peace. The Allies defeated Japan and Germany in WW 2. Today, we are at peace with these countries because of the way we handled the control we won.

in the past it has...but dang it all if there isn't another war that pops up later. The problem is that we are a war-like animal. There will always be disagreement and hatred of anything that's different than our own. Don't believe me? For a mini example, go to a college football team and note how the visiting team is treated.

That's a question to ask the Germans and the Japanese. Have they had need to fight since WWII?

The purpose of war is to destroy the enemy. What most people don't understand is that PEOPLE are not the enemy. IDEAS are. We won WWII, but kept the peace because of the Marshall Plan. We really need to learn from that and expand on the principle.

"History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest/pastor-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance, of which their political as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purpose."
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Alexander von Humboldt, 1813

Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and torturous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness, with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we called it the word of a demon than the Word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind."
-Thomas Paine, The Age of Reason, 1794

"Christianity...[has become] the most perverted system that ever shone on man....Rogueries, absurdities and untruths were perpetrated upon the teachings of Jesus by a large band of dupes and imposters led by Paul, the first great corrupter of the teaching of Jesus."

---Thomas Jefferson

Sure. Others have already given examples, so I won't mention them again.

However, I think that peace should be attempted by exhausting all other means first.

Certainly, that is the way evil will end when Christ comes back and defeats all evil at the Battle of Armegeddon. Evil can never be attained through comporomise because evil cannot be trusted.

The whole world shall never be at peace. God made sure that would never happen again, due to what happened last time humans were all co-operating. (we tried to build a tower to heaven).

No. Peace begats peace.

As long as one group of people is being oppressed or killed by another group of people, in the name of freedom or for whatever reason, then we are not living in the way that Christ commanded us to live.
