If you are jewish, and your spouse/significant other, wanted to get a tattoo symbolizing their beliefs (a cross, or a word that meant something to them), would you be opposed?

i am a christian, and i want to get the word beloved tattooed on my wrist in hebrew... my significant other, however, is jewish, and feels that it would be wrong of me to do so, as he feels its idolizing jesus (which... as a christian... i love jesus and believe he was god... so it isn't wrong really, in my eyes), and so he thinks it would be a sin for me to do so.

how would you feel in a similar situation?

ok... the question was NOT "do you like tattoos" or "is our relationship wrong, and do we need counseling" ... it was HOW WOULD YOU PERSONALLY FEEL.

thank you to the one person that actually answered me. i appreciate it. i just felt upset that he asked me not to get it, but in the long run, i agree that its best not to cause problems over a bit of ink.

no matter if i believed it was right or wrong to get the tattoo, i wouldn't do it simply for the fact that your husband doesn't want you to do it. in the big picture it is not a huge deal so therefore i would submit to my husband in this particular issue.
however if this man is not your husband and is just your bf, then do whatever the heck you want, he has no right to boss you around.

I can see where he is coming from. In Judaism, tattoos are prohibited, so I find it only a little bit amusing when people ask about tattoos in Hebrew. In my opinion, you getting this tattoo is just creating problems between you and your spouse...which is better, a mark or shalom in your home?

Peace in whatever decision you make

Some people could look at that (whether it's an "idol" or not) as a gray area, so I would agree that it's not worth it if it offends your significant other that much.
