Most people say put "tissue paper" in the wedding invitation. What kind of tissue paper are we talking about here? Would a Kleenex be considered "too informal"?

we already have a sheet of Vellum underneath the invitation. Should we put another one on top?

Most wedding invitations come with tissue paper. I made my own and the paper I ordered came with tissue paper. If yours didn't, I wouldn't worry about it.

It's not Kleenex. It's a type of paper called vellum. With engraved invitations it was used to protect the rest of the invitation from being discolored from the inks on the actual invite. Now, of course, it's merely decorative. But please don't use Kleenex.

And I haven't seen an invite with vellum for awhile--mainly because it's another expense--although many invites do come with them. If yours came with the sheets of vellum, just put a sheet over the main invitation part. If they didn't, then don't worry about it.

The tissue paper is a formality, its used so that the ink of the invitation itself doesnt smear or rub in any way. Thats most likely not going to happen, so its not really a necessity.
No its not a kleenex, as someone staed above, its small pieces of paper that you would find in a gift box wrapped around your new sweater. Its very fine and light paper. You can actually get pre-cut tissue paper at the craft store, BUT you really dont need it. If they didnt come with your invites then just skip it, really people only use them because they come with the invites.

Hi. If you don't already have the tissue paper, you don't need it. That is an old tradition and does not hold true today.....most people just do it out of "tradition."

How it started: Years back, when most invitations were hand engraved, tissue paper was included with invitations to prevent smudging. But most invites these days are made with ink that really isn't going to smudge -- the tissue tradition continues more out of habit than for any other reason.

So, you don't need it....and NO, do NOT use Kleenex.

Good luck!

No, don't put Kleenex. The tissue paper (like you use to wrap gifts with) is usually there so the ink on the invitation doesn't stick to the envelope. If it did not come with the invitations, then don't worry about it. It's just a waste of paper to make your invitations look more fancy.

Its not actually tissue paper, but veluim paper thats put in the invitations...(it looks somewhat like tissue paper) If you chose to enclose a Kleenex that is your choice...It sounds a bit weird, but I guess it could be used by those that will cry at your ceremony.
Good luck!

The tissue, your talking about can be found at a stationary store or some place like Staples. In the Stationary department.

If you want to put Kleenex in your invites you can do that too, that way when your guest open the invite and see it, they can hold it over there mouths while they're laughing...

Good Luck

I didn't put any tissue paper in nor did I put any vellum in our invitations.

And yes, Kleenex is just plain tacky, you should go without any tissue if you think you should use Kleenex.

Ummm. Tissue paper is not what kleenex are made of. I wouldnt use a kleenex. It is a totally different thing and people would be wondering why you included a tissue. Go down your local newsagency and ask them to show you some tissue paper.

The piece of vellum you bought with the invitation is supposed to go on top of the invitation to protect the engraving.

For gosh sakes, do not put a facial tissue in your wedding invitation. That's ridiculous.
