Depends which military you're planning on joining... some probably won't care, some may look at it and give you a psychological interview, and for the more professional ones, a psychological interview is compulsory before enlistment, scars or no scars.

If you've given a psychological interview, just be honest about how you got the scars, but give them the impression it was a long time ago, you regret it and you've gained something from the experience (in your position, I'd say it was a mistake and I learned there were other ways to deal with life's problems).

I wouldn't explain unless asked about the scars.

I can't answer if the military will keep you out, they are in dire need right now, but you may find that peer pressure is unmerciful if your problem is discovered.

I'd think twice and very hard about your choice if I were you. Can you stand up to being picked on? Kids in the military have a way of finding weakness and running it into the ground.

You should be fine as long as you have dealt with your demons. I would not volunteer the information, but be honest and quick in your explanation if they ask. They don't really care either most likely as long as you don't have a problem now.

Good luck
