Boot camp is not that bad. I was not a athlete and found it to be a little tough, but not more than we should have to prepare us for life and military service.

Last month Congress approved a doubling of Army signing bonuses, meaning a new recruit could earn as much as $40,000 just for signing on the dotted line. The amount is $20,000 for new reservists. An active duty soldier with a hard-to-fill job who meets all the right criteria could earn a staggering $90,000 for re-enlisting.

Military service is really a great deal and it is not that dangerous even in Iraq. I served in Viet Nam and decided after a year that I was safer there than in Atlanta. Really only about 10% of our losses are due to enemy action. We lose 42,000 on the highways every year.

Do your best to make the army a career and go Active ... not Guard or Reserve as they have retirement at age 60 and except for active duty can only earn 50 points (days) per year for retirement. Active duty has retirement at 20 years with 2.5% per year of service of highest pay. I retired at 42 with 21 years and 52.5%.

I think so but bonuses change alot so what may be here today will be gone tommorrow.
Boot camp isn't hard. It is all a head game. If you can take some yelling and getting punished when someone else messes up you are good to go. Physically it isn't that bad, just be ready before you go.

ask your recruiter or go to www.goarmy.com

as far as i can remember they had 2 year 4 year and 6 year contracts. As for bonuses it's all supply and demand. they have bonuses for high demand and high risk jobs such as truck driver.

and Boot camp is VERY difficult, but with enough determination and motivation you can do it!

Talk to your parents and/or partner and other family before you sign that peice of paper. My cousin didn't tell anyone untill after he enlisted and now he is gone forever. He went through 2 years of boot camp for nothing. The money that they give you is no good if you are dead. There are other ways to make money or to help your country.
