I used to think humility meant "turn the other cheek" and "let others walk all over you."

I have since found that humility means understanding my position in the universe. When I look at my problems and then step back and see the devestation war has brought on, how entire regions are starving.

Not having humility allows me to complain that my health insurance doesn't cover an elective surgery, and not seeing an entire nation that lacks health care.

Not having humility allows me to act as if my pay check defines who I am and how I'm better than the next person because he's working for minimum wage.

Humility calls for me to remember, I am the created, and not the Creator.

Humility is more likely to say that we are alone in the cosmos. It is a lack of humility that would say we are something special in all of the cosmos, in the eyes of some supernatural thingy.
