My grandfather wrote his memoirs 10 years ago and I never bothered to read them. But I dusted them off now that he has been gone for 5 years, and they are the most amazing stories about his travels, his time in World War II, etc. I just wanted to know how many other people out there wrote memoirs like this ... and if they didn't, they should! I might get started on mine and I'm only 27.

Sad part Eric is that no one really has that experience any more. Grandparents have lost the most important purpose they can ever have, ever heard of Elders? Thats right, what happen to Elders? O thats right there in the retirement homes..... I don't mean to be sinical, but the fact remains what you have in your hand is a true treasure, a true testiment to legacy and purpose. If we could all have something like that we'd be better people for it, that aside it would help us to understand us better. So NEVER loss sight of how important that is, it isn't just some stories, memoirs are a life.... I never knew my grandparents, died when I was 3, to have that in my life would of been wonderful and would of gave me the most important thing a human being can have outside of love, namly PURPOSE! If anything, to live life like they did.....

i am a grandfather of 12, and i have kept and active journal since i was in jr. high.. at first i thought it was kinda strange for a guy to do this, but i started because my mom always kept a diary and would sometimes share her past thoughts of special occasions, and the memories, tears and laughter were awesome.. so i kept on writing.. i have been working for a year and a half entering them all into my computer... i have over 120 volumes... it has been wonderful for me to go back in time and stir up all the memories of the past... after my mother passed away in 1984, my sisters and i read all of her diaries, it was amazing... so i hope my memories will give my grandchildren something pleasant to remember me by... it's also a good way to start a book... yay

I am very sorry to say that neither my Parents or Grandparents made a written record of their memories, but they did tell us many stories of their past. It is so sad to know that many of their stories are lost forever if someone doesn't take the time to record them. You have inspired me to start putting down in writing the stories I remember. I am 80 years old and the only one of my generation still living on both sides of the family, so time is wasting, I had better get started.
Thanks, so much, for your question.
