When I got fired from my job it was a Christian who spearheaded the petition for my (successful) reinstatement. For that I am grateful. But I think he would still have done that had he been an atheist.

Sure, no problem. I'm a Christian, but quite a few of my friends are atheists. I admire the atheists' quest for knowledge. Most of the atheists I know are quite well-educated (many are university professors), and don't accept ideas just because someone tells them to. They also tend, in my experience, to have a rather good sense of humor. They're often interesting conversationalists.

A theist is not atheist. Atheist is not a theist.

You see, there's only a millimeter space between them! All that's needed to bridge the gulf is a mustard-seed size particle of faith!

Uh, I can say some nice things about specific theists... there are some christians that I really really like and respect as people. But as a group, no I can't.

I have studied the Bible enough to know the Bible god is an invention of that pervert Moses and his syphilitic half-brother Aaron.

But there may be another god. Just for argument's sake, I'll say there is. What am I, an atheist or a theist?

(Personally, I don't give a holy crap.)

I have very close friends who are atheists and they're fine, moral, fun, loving people.

I won't say all atheists are, though. Nor will I say all theists are. They're not.

Edit: Since I answered this question, I've received 5 nasty emails from an atheist. No good deed goes unpunished?

Some of my best online friends are atheists, not the least of which is an unnamed atheist who has entered into an agreement with me to be my roommate in the hereafter.

I am not sure about this question, but I wanted to share a story about my Dad. When I was about 8, my dad started drinking a lot. He would call me into the kitchen, and tell me to line up shot glasses on the table. I would roll over to the table, in the wheelchair he made for me, and line them up, we had ten of them. He would then pour alternating shots of whiskey and vodka into the glasses and then ask me "Special needs or gimpy?" I would say special needs, and he would take a shot of whiskey. After five questions, and five shots of whiskey, he would ask the question again, and when I said special needs, he would say wrong and then he would drink the vodka shots. After all of the shots were done he would ask what I had learned. I was always afraid that he would beat me, so I would say vodka is clear and whiskey is caramel...and he would say "No, in the end no matter what you say or what others say, you are a gimp." He would start crying and walk out of the kitchen.

I like the way many theists practice compassion and loving-kindness. My father and Father K are two shining examples.
They do not need to believe as I do to earn my respect, they merely need to allow me the freedom to believe as I do.
