An easier way to do it would be to buy phones where one is plugged into a phone jack and the other one just plugs into and outlet (like for a lamp ..etc). As long as the second phone is within like 20 or 30 feet of the other one it will work. These phones are always sold in pairs (same box). This way you won't have to run a new phone line.

Try using a expandable phone. This is where on phone is hooked into a jack, and the other phone gets its service wirelessly form the other phone. These are in expensive and easier than running another phone jack.

Here is bestbuys wireless phone selection:

going from one jack to the next would be the easiest way to do it.... but not the recommended way...

the recommended way, would be to wire each jack to a centralized place (preferably the NID) and run a wire from this centralized location to each jack that you wish to install... (it uses more materials and takes alittle more time for the installation, but repairs, and troubleshooting can be done in a matter of seconds, compared to the hours it could take tracing out a short or ground on the inside wiring..)

for single line connect
green -> blue/white
red -> soild blue
for second line
yellow -> orange/white
black -> solid orange

It is a fairly easy procedure. Here is a link with photos and step by step instructions.
