Well this R&B singer asked me and two other people, with whom I'm doing a gospel play with, to be her background vocalists. I was kinda skeptical b/c all she does is secular music and the places she would be performing would be in jazz cafes and classy clubs etc., in which my bible study teacher told me I shouldn't go to those types of places. I myself am going to start my career in the gospel music industry. I told the other two that I wasn't sure and that my unsurity was probably God telling me not to do it. Should I go ahead and try it out? Would performing in those types of places really be bad?

If your "unsurity" is God telling you to stear clear, I'd advise heeding the warning. Ignoring the Holy Spirit is NEVER wise. Better to go the conservative route and say "No" than to risk going against the Will of God by ignoring what could, quite reasonably, be the LORD's answer to your question.

I'd thank the R&B singer and make sure they knew I was flattered at the opportunity but decline saying "I'm concerned singing in the secular world could lessen my credibility as a Christian artist." If additional questions are asked about your decision, honesty shared information delivered without piety is the best response.

As for "those Places" being "that bad", the only way to know is to place yourself in the temptation. While some can easily enter environments with smoking, alcohol and promiscuity without giving into this lifestyle, most are unable to resist just 'tasting' the sins available because they are not 'really that bad'. I've even known some to deceive themselves into believing they are improving their testimony by gaining real experience in carnality... The things we do to deceive ourselves into numbness toward the knowledge of the rightiousness GOD prefers for HIS children.

While I am sure your performance in these places would be great experience, the surroundings will most likely result with a dramatic decline in your daily walk with GOD. Is this opportunity worth that cost?

Be sensitive to the Spirit inside of you. The Holy Spirit will guide your path. I think since you're feeling a little uneasy about it, the answer would be not to go ahead with it. Remember, doors are closed so that many others can open and bring you to places that are in God's Will. If this is not one of those places, don't step over the threshold. Be careful and pray more about it. katiefish <><

Listen...a double minded man can not stand and is unstable in all his ways! You have to choose who u will serve! God or the enemy.

If u consider ur singing a gift from the Lord and know that He desires to use ur vocals 2 HIS glory- then dont compromise with the world!

Stand on the Word and like Rom 12:2 says,
"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God"!

I pray u received ur answer! Trust God and HE will provide u with many opportunities, HE will open many doors 4 u....give HIM ur gift!

I praise dance/ mime.....and the devil tried 2 pull at me and destroy my gift....dancing 4 worldly singers, etc....but GOD warned me...DONT DO IT...and I did neway, and HE stripped me of my gift 4 2 years! Hold close 2 u wut u cherish.

Im blessed 2 say I am over a dance ministry of 35 now, we travel 2 churches and banquets...and r blessed! And GOD opens every door!

Jesus Himself went into the houses of sinners and a few dens of iniquity and did not judge those within, unless your faith is so weak that you would turn into a heathen by doing this I really see no problem, the real problem would be your Teacher`s over-zealous puritanism and scrupulousness.

If you really feel uncomfortable with it then you shouldn't do it.
