I have a 22" Magnavox CRT and the sound works fine for video games and DVD, but when I try to watch television the sound is so quiet that even turning it up all the way doesn't help. It has a headphone jack and I've plugged some computer speakers into it, but it doesn't do any good. Do I have a faulty coaxial input? Could it be the coaxial cable itself? Please help me out!

p.s. my source is a cable directly from the wall into the back of my tv. I'm at a university so they are in charge of everything, but my TV has been doing this when i had it at home too

first rule in troubleshooting - rule out possibilities one at a time.

The tv could have an issue in the tuning section. Obviously it doesn't have a problem in the audio.

The signal on the cable could be a problem.

THE PHYSICAL CABLE IS NOT THE PROBLEM.

Ask if others have the same issue in other rooms. If not borrow someones TV and try it on your outlet or take your tv to another outlet.

Now u know where the issue is.
Either your $ or the university.

BTW if your set has "Smart Sound" turn it off. That works on the TV signal to equalize sound level on channels and may be the problem.

You didn't mention what your TV source is, but if you have a cable or satellite box, the box may have an adjustable audio level that needs to be raised through its remote control.

The coax cable will have virtually no effect on audio attentuation without having much more dramatic effect on the video.

As long as you don't have a volume controlled box of any kind, then it sounds like a problem with the t.v. or coax cable. How are you connecting your dvd and gaming device?
